Shannon Tavarez, a young soprano who starred in 'The Lion King' on Broadway, has died at age 11 after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia, Broadway World is reporting. The actress played Young Nala from September 2009 until April, when she began feeling pain in her lower back and legs. Soon, the emerging star was diagnosed and the search for a donor began. Her story drew the attention of numerous celebrities, including Alicia Keys and Rihanna, who led campaigns to find a bone-marrow match for Tavarez.
But doctors were unable to find a match for a bone-marrow transplant, so as an alternative she received umbilical-cord blood treatment in August. Since leaving 'The Lion King,' Tavarez had undergone extensive chemotherapy and had been staying at a New York City hospital.

ANYTIME ANY CHILD DIES ITS SAD ,ANY CHILD ,NOT JUST A TALENTED ONE
I have to agree. Everybody has some kind of talent, it's just a matter of time when it shows. Some may not show until they have been to a school, others are just natural like hers.
Not just talented...any young person that hasnt had a chance to experience a normal lenght of life.
Tavarez got the role of Young Nala after wowing producers at her first open audition. According to Broadway World, she attended Harlem School of the Arts for vocals and piano and started singing at age 3..I love this , So does My boyfriend .he is almost 11year older than me .i met him via age'lessmate.c'om a nice place for seeking age le ss love.which gives you a chance to make your life better and open opportunities for you to meet the attractive young girls and treat you like a king. Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends..
it's just too freaking sad when anyone you love dies, but especially a child. sometimes life just doesn't make any sense. children die every day, second after second. when it is public, you are forced to bear witness and it is a painful horrid fact and certainly unfair this individual child, or ant childs, life is cut short like hers was.
my deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of Shannon, she seemed to be a sweet little girl, for all those who were really close to shannon I am sorry for your loss

So sad. AML is the most aggressive and most difficult to treat of the childhood leukemias. Rest in peace young lady. Your star was bright.

AML is not just a child's leukemia. It affects adults as well. My husband is recovering and doing very well. He had 3 rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant. Thank God his brother was a match. This breaks my heart that they were unable to find a donor for her. RIP
unfortunately, teens are now dying from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) in startling numbers. we lost our 19 yr old daughter to it; she'd been diagnosed at age 14.
it is a devastating disease. our girl had a bone-marrow transplant and it lasted 9 months and the leukemia was back again.
i miss her every second of every minute of every hour of every day...
My condolences go out to the family and friends of Shannon Taverez.

She's done more in her 11 yrs. than I have in 41. I glad she's not hurting anymore.
I hope her family will be ok.
