Demi Lovato's Dad Receiving Death Threats

Demi Lovato's father may have been well-intentioned when he professed concern for his daughter's well-being earlier this week, but his statements to the press have far from appeased fans of the troubled Disney star.

Patrick Lovato, Demi's estranged father, came under fire after telling RadarOnline.com that many of the young star's problems may have been caused by career stress. "There are a lot of pressures," he said. "That is one of the things I worried about when she signed with Disney."

Demi, who is reportedly receiving treatment for cutting and body image issues following an altercation with a dancer on her tour, has not been in contact with her father for months.

Since making statements to the press, the elder Lovato found a death threat reading "you're dead" nailed to his fence and has received a threatening call on his home phone.

Patrick Lovato, who recently left the hospital following treatment for cancer, isn't afraid of the threats being hurled at him, including the chilling message, "You're gonna die for what you did to her."

"I don't care, let them come at me," he tells Radar. "I'm not responsible for where Demi is right now ... I love my daughter."

While Patrick remains cavalier about the threats, his ex-wife and Demi's mother, Dianna, is reportedly livid over his portrayal of their daughter. A source close to the singer told Page Six yesterday, "It's unfortunate he chose to speak out in the media because he hasn't played a role in Demi's life for years."

Demi Lovato's attorney told Page Six: "No one speaks for Demi except for her designated representatives. Unfortunately, several people have taken it upon themselves to speak out -- both on and off the record -- about a situation they know nothing about."

He has a right to speak out about his daughter if he wants to.

Such a beautiful girl....there's really no need. I hope she realizes that every family has problems. She should be thankful for what she has and go with it..Toughen up the skin a little and bounce right back. No one is ever happy with their looks although she looks amazing....it's later as your grow out of your teens do you realize 'hey my body looks pretty good'....Good luck Demi...love your style!!! And what an amazing voice!

What we need to do is check this girl's temples for any imprints from the gun barrel that was pressed to her head forcing her to live this kind of life. No one forced this upon her. She probably has wanted this since she was much younger. Part of the blame here falls to Disney for the way they work their young talent. This young lady is like several others there who start with their own show, then move into music careers and movies on the network. What Disney should've done was to monitor these kids for any early signs of this "stress" & "pressure". There is plenty of past examples of child stars having these problems and Disney should've been more proactive to protect kids like her.

This latest thing reminds me of another young performer from years ago - Kristy McNichol - who couldn't handle fame because of bipolar disorder. Not only did she leave the industry, she's pretty much forgotten today. But at least she's still alive ...

It may have been unfortunate that her father chose to speak out about Demi's issues to the media, but it's even more unfortunate that her mother has spoken out about her father in such a way to the media.

What's the big deal about what the father said. He basically said she was under a lot of strain and pressure due to her busy career. There is nothing bad about saying that. Most young stars are under a lot of stress when they have an active career. Makes me wonder why the mom would be "livid" unless she felt this was a reflection on her not encouraging Demi to slow down.

Some people can be such buttholes. He didn't really do anything to her. She had eating disorders and cutting problems because she was bullied in school when she was younger. People called her fat when she was in middle school. Not because of her father.

Death threats? Really? Because he expressed concern over his daughter perhaps having too much stress in her life? She wouldn't be the first child star to have stress issues. Why in the world is that worth a death threat?

It would be nice if everyone would just leave her alone, let her get the help she needs so she can go on with her life. At least Demi had the wherewithall to recognize that she had an issue and is dealing with it. I wish her well.

I think Death threats are ridiculous and twistedand he doesn't deserve them however I too feel he should keep his mouth shut he is just going to cause more trouble for the mom and more stress for his daughter. He's concerned now where was he when all the crap happened to Demi when she was younger nowhere in the picture so yes he should Shut Up.

Ok, so her Dad speaks out on behalf of his daughter. Awesome. Blames Disney? Not nice... Let's take other starlets of Disney... Like Selena Gomez or Alyson Stoner who are normal and embracing their fame and seemingly at this point, Normal kids. I would take my 13 year old niece to see Selena Gomez in Concert, but not to Demi Lovato and that was before finding out about her being a cutter. Either way, that's the main issue, she's a cutter and having body issues. Glad to see her in rehab for it, so sad to see it at such a young age though.
