Home on the Strange: The Best of Oprah and Gayle's Big Yosemite Camping Adventure

Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King have been longtime friends, business partners and, if you believe the rumors, lovers.

Their latest collaboration has less to do with overseeing an empire and more to do with getting back to nature, with the pair undertaking a two-day camping adventure in Yosemite National Park.

Park Ranger Shelton Johnson announced Oprah and Gayle's trip, telling a reporter that he had previously written to the star asking her to visit the park in an effort to promote national park tourism among African-American families.

Oprah and Gayle prove that they're good sports, joking about the lesbian rumors that have fed tabloid stories throughout their friendship.

Who's thirsty? Oprah surprises her fellow campers with a round of her famous Moscow Mules.

I love to watch their outings. They're a trip. Oprah is just a down to earth lady with lots of cash. I don't think she divides blacks and whites at all. She's just stating the obvious. It's not like every other person in this country doesn't do the same, whether out loud or not.

I enjoyed the show and thought that it was enlightening and funny. I'm a black American who visited the Grand Canyuon earlier this year and agree with the park ranger. TAX PAYINg African Americans have a right to enjoy the beauty this country has to offer and they certainly should. Thank you Oparah for educating small minded people.

As a mid aged white woman I found nothing racist at all about Oprah's show. This one or any of them. I love her and wish her only the best. She is one of the few on television WHO SPEAKS THE TRUTH .. CARES .. AND VERY SMART !

It ain't that deep anon. It's very true that more white people than black get out and experience the beauty and wonderment that nature provides us all. There'e nothing wrong with asking/suggesting that more blacks get out and see also. They also made a plea that not only blacks but everyone who hasn't gotten a chance to at least once in your life find a way to do it.

I found the show funny and then once her racism came at the end it ruined her whole show for me AGAIN! She continues to devide white and black and men and woman. Such a shame for such a very influential black woman.

I watched the show and found it amusing, for the most part. I did NOT like all the references to whether or not black people go camping which, apparently, was the impetus for the show. What really bothered me was how she gifted a racially mixed couple she just happened to meet, with the camping trailer AND the SUV she and Gayle used for their trip. Yet she gave NOTHING to Park Ranger Shelton who wrote to her and inspired the show to begin with!! What's up with that???

Careful now--sure sounding like you have your own racism creeping out. Racially mixed or not, it this couple chooses to be together, does not matter if they are white, black, green or purple. In other words, none of your business!!

Patty ... your response is foolish and way off base! I was NOT questioning, criticizing, or drawing attention to the racially mixed couple! I was asking why Oprah gifted one and NOT the other! Why do people insist on bringing up a rumor that Oprah and Gayle are Lesbians? How many times do they have to tell us they are just good friends? Women have always had close friends that they can go and do anything with without it being a sexual relationship, Men too, for that matter. Who really cares anyway?

Oprah thinks that she is like the average woman, but she isn't. How can she be with all of her money? She doesn't understand the average person, male or female!

My husband saw the show and taped it for me. We watched it last night and I have not laughed so much for a long time, they kept me rolling. You would have to visit Yosemite to appreciate what they were doing. It is a magnificent place to see. Everyone that has the opportunity to see our National Parks should do so. They are all beautiful beyond words. I am so glad to see them doing this show, hopefully it will bring more people out to see our beautiful country.
