Christina Aguilera Not Dating Assistant, Says His Mother

Newly separated Christina Aguilera made headlines Monday when photos surfaced of her on a double date this past weekend with a set assistant from her new movie, 'Burlesque,' Matthew Rutler. But, according to Rutler's mother, there's nothing going on with the singer and her son.

"I can tell you that they are absolutely not dating," Kathleen Rutler told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview on Monday. "They are friends but nothing more than that.

"Right now Christina needs a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen to her problems, and that is exactly what Matthew is doing," she continued. Kathleen also said her son is a very loyal person who hates seeing friends upset--and that's all Aguilera is to him, a friend.

"That is what she wants right now, a friend. Matthew has told me she really finds it hard to find anyone genuine to listen to her. Despite what it may seem like, she is finding this split very tough," she shared.

Aguilera and Rutler were photographed leaving the Soho House in West Hollywood on Friday night with Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. In the photos, Rutler is seen trying to hide his face. Kathleen says he was hiding his face not because he was hiding a romance but was just afraid of what people would think if they saw them together.

"He isn't into stars and all that Hollywood glamour," she said. "When they first met, he called me and said, he was hesitant to be her friend, because of the unwanted attention it might bring.

"Christina isn't interested in a new man right now and Matthew certainly isn't ready for a relationship or kids," Kathleen concluded.
