Dina Lohan Calls Lindsay's Rehab 'Life-Changing'

Dina Lohan visited NBC's 'Today Show' this morning after spending time at the Betty Ford Center, where her daughter Lindsay Lohan is back in rehab. Dina called the facility "life-changing" for Lindsay and an "amazing place."

Matt Lauer asked Dina, who spent two weeks in family sessions at the clinic, about Lindsay's condition. "Happy, relaxed. She's just a different person," Dina answered. "She's been in a couple facilities, but this one, to me, has really changed her. They get into your psyche and your family and they bring the problem to the surface."

Lauer and Lohan sparred the last time Dina stopped by 'Today.' "Dina felt ambushed by Matt," a family friend told PopEater after the August appearance. "She was surprised how many tough questions he asked."

Today, Lauer grilled the 48-year-old Dina again, though the air was devoid of contention: "When the judge said [Lindsay] needed to go here and sent her, he said to her in no uncertain terms, 'You're an addict,'" Lauer said. "Does Lindsay fully get that?"

"Yes," Dina answered. "And this teaches you that you are, and she's young. I thank God that he didn't incarcerate her because that wouldn't have helped her. And being so young, admitting that can only help her sobriety in the future."

Dina also said she was comfortable with the concept that her 24-year-old daughter is an addict. "We take it one day at a time. Addiction is difficult. I don't know, I don't have a crystal ball. I pray hard."

Dina says Lindsay wants to start her own rehabilitation facilities for other young people. She also acknowledged her daughter's aim to return to film.

Lauer asked if Dina would encourage another early release for Lindsay or if the full time in rehab was due. "Lindsay wants to stay," Dina said. "She's learning the trigger points and why she turns to drugs or addiction. It's a lifelong journey."

The 'Today' interview came hours after news of Lindsay Lohan's reunion with father Michael Lohan, Dina's ex-husband, at the Betty Ford Center. The reunion was reportedly "emotional," with "hugs, kisses, even a few tears."

Hmmm. Yeah, LL is doing just swell right now, locked up and getting treatment. Who wouldn't, if it's a serious program, if the client is motivated to try, good things can happen in a facility.

It's when they LEAVE and go back to their regular lives and try to live a clean life that sh*t happens. (A mother like Dina is NOT going to be very helpful to LL, IMO.)

Years ago I read a celeb autobiography of a woman severely addicted, went to various rehab centers, and told of how drug dealers would be outside waiting for clients to be released! Some of them never made it home clean and sober! This woman was put into a facility for a year and a half, after several one month attempts to clean her up failed. A year and a half! She went home and immediately began using drugs again. (but very shortly after that major slip, she found out she was pregnant, and at that moment she cleaned up for good, had a healthy child, and has been clean and sober for over 20 years.)...Dr. Drew wrote a book about rehabilitating drug addicts, very interesting, very frustrating. He had a client who was very poor, homeless, who came from a whole extended family of junkies. (Someone put up the money for the treatment), Dr. Drew thought, well this is a waste of time! He was surprised this poor homeless guy showed up for every single post-rehab appointment, riding a rickety old bike in the rain, and the treatment worked, he stayed clean and sober!

So, unless there's a 'click' in an addict's brain, if they 'get it' - then it's successful. Let's hope LL 'gets it' and realizes her mother, her former friends and lifestyle are bad for her...

Once out, it will be back to hanging out with her enablers and be back in the same spot see is now. For this to work, she needs to stay away from those repsonsible for her addictive ways, including her mother who has ridden her daughter for the lifestyle she leads.

I believe all Linseys problems stem from the dysfunction she experienced at the hands of her parents. Let's hope LL can ESCAPE HER money hungry mother and sick sob of a father... Good luck.

I really don't care if you are for or against Linzey Lohan, all I can say is "thank goodness for a Mother that loves her Daughter" ! If you are a parent (which most of the bashers in here are not ) you know there is no place on earth you won't go or nothing you would not do to protect them ! This is a brave woman to face the media alone , (since her ex husband won't do it ) and she should be praised for her attemts to keep her Daughter alive !
If you basher want to condem somebody, just look in the mirror, there you will find a person that needs condeming !

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I am a mother of a recovering addict and have been in Al-Anon for 20 years. I (what you call love and willing to go to the ends of the earth) enabled my daughter until she was close to death and her life was miserable. Because of what I now know I would never go to the ends of the earth - that is loving our children to DEATH. I require that my adult children take responsibility for their actions and reactions, as I do with my own life. Letting them hit their bottom is loving, kind, and saves lives. I don't have to go along for the ride.

I cant beleive anythiing lindsays mom says because Dina needs help just as bad or even worse than lindsay.. that whole family needs to get their prioritys in order and stop painting a picture of perfection.. There is no such thing, DINA.. Just admit it your daugher is an addict and your an enabler. Lindsay is in the right place, but you on the other hand need to be in jail.. I love linds.. she has enormous talent, but she has one downfall, HER MOTHER

Congratulations Lindsay!! This is GREAT news!! I am happy that she is doing well. Can't wait to see her back in the movies!! Drew Barrymore and Lindsay Lohan are my favorite actresses!! If Dina stays with her to encourage her, I am sure she will grow up and fly right!

Remind me NEVER to watch TV when any of these idiotic parents are going to be on - they're all media hogs and using their kids for their own benefit. If you really want to help your kid, stay out of the media and try and be a real parent instead of self-indulging yourself. They're all sickening!

Lindsay's mom droped the ball YEARS ago, she should have kept a tighter reign on her daughter when she was very young. If you let them go wild when their little and then try to put on the holds when they get to 12+ then your too late. Some people don't understand this and then they wonder why their kid is doing all these bad things? SO it is infact mostly the mom's fault that Lindsay is so messed up...yes she made the choices, but she was never raised the right way, a spierited kid needs a tougher hand and she never got that. Pay attention you mother's out there with young kids (boys included)gotta teach them the right things from day one and keep reminding them of it OFTEN as they grow up.

The court shgould order Dina Lohan to stay as far away from her daughter as possible. Watching her speak that crock of garbage just shows what an idiot she is and clearly why Lindsay is where she is. Also, can we stop following this train wreck around. Lindsay Lohan was an OK actress not an Oscar winner or a Tony winner. If we stop following her around and ignore her then she would probably stay in rehab get her act together and start auditioning just like all the other actresses do.
