Robert Downey Jr. has starred in some of the last decade's biggest blockbusters, so it may surprise fans to hear that he's taking on, quite literally, one of the smallest parts in showbiz. The actor has signed on as the voice behind Mr. Peanut, the iconic face of Planters peanuts. In an effort to modernize the face of the brand, Planters' parent company, Kraft Foods, has given the previously mute Mr. Peanut a highly-recognizable voice, as well as an updated wardrobe, according to the New York Times.
While the much-loved legume will maintain his trademark top hat, cane and monocle, his new look is decidedly more modest thanks to a gray flannel suit covering up his previously exposed shell.

I just went to check out the "new" Mr. Peanut. He looks wierd with that gray jacket and both eyes visible; I've always known he has two eyes, but the "glare" is taken away from the monocle. And he speaks now? Robert Downey, Jr.? I have GOT to see/hear this...

The next thing you know they'll be dressing the Geico Gecco. Maybe in a shark skinned suit and aligator shoes?

Yea and eating his own nuts
Mr. Peanut has been just fine since his conception in 1916 by a 14-year-old boy who won a contest Planters held for it's mascot. Why change a tradition by giving him clothes and a voice?
You watch...people are not going to like this, just as they didn't like New Coke and other icons when they were changed...

My Mr. Peanut doesn't talk.
He just pukes when you tickle his tummy.
