Shannen Doherty Loses Her Father

Shannen Doherty appeared on 'Dancing With the Stars' last season to honor her father, who had recently suffered a stroke. On Sunday, she issued a statement saying John Thomas Doherty died Friday at age 66 after a series of health issues.

The 'Beverly Hills 90210' alum was eliminated from 'Dancing' in March after just one week of competition. But she considered her stint on the show a success because her father was in the audience, watching her perform.

"I did it for my dad," she said at the time.

In the statement, issued through her publicist, Shannen Doherty called her father the "greatest man in the world."

She added: "I love him with every inch of my being and cannot imagine life without him."

John Doherty was a mortgage consultant who moved his family to Los Angeles when Shannen was 7.

I can't believe voters, voted her out and kepted Kate (Fiona Shreik's wife). Shannen looked extremely promising last season and would've gone far! You could see it in her face she was very emotional of her dad's health. Our condolenses Shannen and may your father Rest in Peace.

My father died just before Thanksgiving in 1991. I never lost him. As long as I have my memories of my dad, he will never be lost. I hope Shannen feels the same way about her father once she recovers from his death.

I lost my mom a little over 5 years ago and I loved her with all my heart and soul. I know you feel so much pain from your lost too. Just remember that the closeness of your relationship will never be lost just the adjustment that he is now with you in spirit and not in flesh. Listen to him with your heart and you grow and accept the change, as well as, proper even more just as he would want you to.

My father is 76 and very thin for his frame. He was just in a car accident with kids going 80 miles and hour. The truck did a 360 and he broke a rib. I couldn't imagine life with out my father. I will pray for Shannon and her family for such a loss. RIP John Thomas Doherty.
