Nick Lachey Is Engaged Again, but Are He and Jessica Simpson Meant to Be?

Maybe I'm still living in a blissful state of teenage delusion, but I haven't given up hope that one day, my favorite 'Newlyweds' stars,
Nick Lachey and
Jessica Simpson, will reunite.
My mom was quick to point out that if she were
Vanessa Minnillo, Nick's current fiancée, she wouldn't appreciate some gossipy writer wishing for her man to get back with his ex-wife. Really, Vanessa, it's not that I have a problem with you. I just think that as cliché as it might be to say this, Nick and Jessica belong together.
Nick and Jessica were a perfect example of Hollywood love at its finest. She was the naturally pretty, wholesome pop star, and he was the buff, handsome boy band frontman. They met at the Hollywood Christmas Parade in 1998, and despite their seven-year age difference, it was love at first sight.
They had undeniable chemistry from the start, whether they were singing duets or hosting variety shows together. Jessica was notorious for for being a virgin, a fact that was widely discussed up until the night of her picture-perfect marriage to Nick, a very patient, non-virgin gentleman. Jessica's father later mortified us all when he said she'd waited until marriage to have sex, and "now she [could] sing about it until she's blue in the face!"
'Newlyweds' documented the early days of Nick and Jessica's marriage, comically portraying a down-to-earth Midwestern boy and a slightly spoiled southern belle who didn't always see eye-to-eye. Nick often became frustrated with Jessica's childishness, and she was irked by his unwillingness to cater to her every whim. Still, the two made for great TV with their endearing, playful banter and good-natured, flirtatious teasing. Despite their day-to-day quibbles, this all-American couple showed all the signs of being madly in love with each other.
The show's popularity brought Jessica, but not Nick, to new career heights. As dutifully as he played the role of supportive husband, tensions inevitably arose between the two stars. By the time Jessica co-starred in 'The Dukes of Hazzard,' she was well on her way to bona fide movie star status. And Nick, bless his heart, didn't seem to be finding much career success of his own.
We'll never know for sure if Nick was bitter about his wife's achievements. Maybe Jessica's father did meddle too much in their marriage, or perhaps she was just too young to have gotten married in the first place. But in the fall of 2005, rumors were rampant that there was major trouble in the 'Newlyweds' paradise.
And almost five years ago to the date, on Thanksgiving Day of 2005, heartbreak swept the nation when the couple announced publicly that they were getting a divorce. We were all forced to accept the fact that this idealistic, picture-perfect couple was no longer everything we'd built them up to be.
Since then, Jessica's dated her fair share of high-profile guys, from Tony Romo to current beau Eric Johnson. And Nick, of course, has on-again, off-again dated former MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo for four years now.
So why have neither Nick nor Jessica said "I do" once again?
Just maybe, somewhere deep in their hearts, they too have held tight to the hope of rekindling romance past. Nick and Jessica have both been honest about wanting kids. Wouldn't you think they'd want their respective lovers to put a ring on it and get those new families started?
I think Nick's taken four years to propose and Jessica's yet to settle down with her own Mr. Right, because these two can't quite let go of that first love they both shared with one another.
Nick and Vanessa, I wish you years of happiness, and Jess, I hope Eric turns out to be the one. I'm just saying that real love doesn't vanish into thin air. So, maybe it'll be 40 years from now, after you've both had many years of individual happiness, but your paths will cross again. Because for every Jessica, there's a Nick, and I know it seems far off, but I'm betting one day the originals fall right back in love again. It'll the greatest love story of all time, as predicted by Popeater, of course.

Why on earth would an establish writer, write about something like this? It's so rude to wish a person to get back with an ex while he just got engaged. Jessica was just not right for Nick and he is sooo much happier with his new fiance (who by the way is stunning)as well as Jessica with her new man. Are you speaking for a Nick & Jessica fan club? How old are we?

Personally, it's a little suspicious that after 4 years they get engaged about 2 weeks after being at the same restaurant as Jessica at the same time. I'm thinkin' a jealous Vanessa ultimatumed Nick into it. If he REALLY wanted to marry her it would have been a long time ago and not right after seeing he ex-wife for the first time in years. I wonder how much he looked at Jess at that restaurant.

Great point Fran!!
It is really unfortunate that people are still fixated on Nick and Jessica as a couple. As they move on with their lives, people like this blogger, can not. Their marriage didn't work, and they simply were not meant to be together. Wishing for two people to reunite when they don't want to be together is selfish. I applaud Nick and Vanessa for taking their time and not listening to others on when the time is right for them to marry. There is nothing fishy about their engagement, and it certainly had nothing to do with running into Simpson. Let go of the fantasy, and live in the now. These two people are living their lives, and appear to be content.

The article is so immature! People get divorced everyday! They just were not meant to be. I don't think Vanessa and Nick's future children would want to read articles like the that.
Is this piece some kind of joke? Nick and Jessica are supposed to reunite because a journalist WANTS them to? It's bad enough PopEater posts articles about petty stuff about celebrities just so the public unloads on them. But this (AHEM) article suggests they can play Cupid for their subjects? HA!! I laugh in your face, Ms. Macatee. Good luck with that attempt at matchmaking, sister.

Please, why would Nick ever go back to the vapid Jessica? He had her during her best years and now she's lost her looks to fat and her career is nonexistent. The best revenge is living well and Nick seems to know exactly hat he's doing. I'm sure his recent announcement about his engagement caused Jessica to pout on another 15 pounds.

It's hard enough for 2 people to keep a marriage together but when there are 3,somebody has to bail. Undoubtedly daddy is not about to let go of his cash cow...uhmmm, I mean daughter. As for Jessica going into marriage "a virgin" on her wedding, a lot of people snicker (may not more than Nick) knowing she's made up for lost time.

These two are one of the greatest love stories of all time? I'm sure she's a nice person, but aside from her looks, she barely has any talent to speak of,neither of them seem to do much of anything.

I think Nick is better off with a more mature woman, Jess just seemed very immature and just plain spoiled at times. I even tried to like her by watching that show she had on VH1 (why, why did you give this woman another show?). I just found her annoying and the fact she has no talent (besides that shoes brand) and yet is still famous, like a lot of celebrities... is just lame.

Nick should be with Vanessa and Jessica should be with Jenny Craig. Damn has she gotten Moo-tastically big as of late. Stop eating your feelings Jess and get over it.

Nick is exactly where he belongs, with a wannabee hollywood no talent bimbo, whos as a matter of fact pretty ugly. Jessica is WAY to good for Nick. Nick who?

I'm sorry but this is exactly how I feel about Justin and Britney. Justin will never find someone more fit to him - Jessica Biel, seriously? She's basically a man.
They should alternate making albums and supporting each other and have a few kids later down the road. And I don't care if any of you think I'm weird for writing this; I'm 27, successful and happy and I still believe this to be true.

Get life. Go get back with your Ex.
I remember when I first heard Nick & Jessica were splitting up like yesterday, I heard it on the radio that there marriage was over since I lost power on Thanksgiving 2005 12 hours without power I know no cares. Nick & Jessica were a cute couple both have moved on and it was bound to happen that they would see each other.
I also think Nick and Vanessa are a cute couple as well and I wish both of them nothing but the best and CONGRATS on there engagment.
