'Teen Mom' Star Amber Portwood Charged in Assault Against Former Fiance
Talk about baby mama drama!
'Teen Mom' star Amber Portwood has been slapped with a misdemeanor and two felony charges related to three assaults on former fiance Gary Shirley,
Hollywood Life reports.
Portwood's home state of Indiana considers domestic abuse in the presence of a child felonious assault, which was the case in two of Portwood's outbursts toward Shirley. The third attack occurred while the couple's baby, Leah, was elsewhere. There has been speculation that misdemeanor charges may be brought against the MTV camera crew who filmed the assault and failed to intervene, as Indiana law requires witnesses to domestic or child abuse to report the crime.
Portwood's abuse against Shirley, which occurred on July 14th, 18th, and August 14th of this year, was captured on film by MTV camera crews, although one of the incidents was never aired.
Amber, 20, who recorded a domestic violence PSA that aired on MTV following footage of the assaults, could serve up to three years in jail and pay $10,000 in fines if convicted.
Despite her on-camera compunction, Portwood has been vilified in her hometown paper,
The Herald Bulletin, who had the following to say of the star: "'Teen Mom' is not the national image Anderson wants. The next time you see our teen mom in the store, point out that she is hurting this city. We don't push our loved ones down stairs. We don't take pride that our teenage girls are 16 and pregnant. We don't all drop out of high school."
Portwood, who expressed her regret over the assaults to Dr. Drew Pinsky on the 'Teen Mom' reunion show, alleged that she "blacked out" during the attack in which she punched Shirley multiple times, claiming to only remember striking him once.
MTV issued a statement regarding their involvement in the fight, saying "Our role in 'Teen Mom' is to document how incredibly challenging and difficult being a teen parent is. In this particular instance, we monitored the situation to make sure no one was in imminent danger."
The Madison County Prosecutor's office has subpoenaed MTV for all of their unedited 'Teen Mom' footage for evidence.

It's about time. That girl should have been arrested a long time ago! MTV has ongoing footage of the attacks against her ex. When I saw her attacking him on TV, I thought to myself "They are going to bust her for that"

I watched that show and almost got up and walked away from it ...I feel sorry for that baby .She knows when they are fighting....I think amber is depressed and bipolar .She needs help ...Where is her family????gary should have custody of the baby and amber can see her regulary untill she gets help...She treats him so bad.....I don't like to see a baby taken away from the mother but...I care about the baby more....
I was also thinking that this isn't going to help her any if she wants custody of Leah. I think that Leah's dad should get full custody. He's not the greatest but he's gentle with Leah and doesn't fly off the handle even when Amber goes off on him.
GARY IS A LOSER AND SHOULD NOT GET CUSTODY OF THAT CHILD. HIS MOTHER IS A LOSER AND SHE RAISED A FAT, LOSER SON. THE BABY WOULD BE BETTER OFF ADOPTED OUT.
That show is proof that there is too much cable bandwidth. There's no reason to give trash like her a medium to show their low life antics. ESPN should be ashamed of themselves for polluting the airwaves, and the minds of America's youth.

Why it took this long is amazing !! If it hadn't been on TV would she even have been arrested? I doubt it. My heart breaks for that poor little girl, she has a mom and dad who are human train wrecks. I hope she is given to someone who will love and raise her in a safe enviroment, she deserves so much better than these two.

I agree too. Theres never a good reason for any woman to beat on a man, just because its a man, and they are not suppose to hit back. This type of mother is a nite mare, I hope the child will be alright. We will never know until childrens protected service gives her a knock on her door. And I pray they do, and soon.
No child should ever be exposed to this kind of woman.
I am glad I raised my boys to hit back. Woman or not, no one deserves to be beat on.

Sorry, I agreed with everything you said except the last part. You should raise your kids not to hit anyone, nor let themselves be hit. You should NEVER put your hands on ANYONE except to defend yourself, period. Sara, you say she shouldn't hit Gary and then list the reasons why she's justified in doing so. If she's not happy, she should find someone else, leave him, not hit him. What kind of example are they setting for this child?

I worked with a woman who would tell me stories of how she liked to follow her boyfriend from room to room and nag him. When he'd try to leave, she'd hide his car keys. Then one day, after months of this nonsense, he popped her in the nose. She wanted sympathy from me; I was fresh out. She is now on her fourth husband. (What is with these guys who so willingly put up with this abuse?)

You are so correct in teaching your children to defend themselves and hit back if hit upon. Nothing wrong with defending yourself. Now yelling, I'm all for that as a lot of people need to be yelled at due to their stupidity, mainly those of the "liberal" fold of life.

you should never tell your kids to hit back. when your kids are older and they hit back, they will end up either in jail or be fined a big amount of money, and i hope if they do hit someone and get fined you think back on me telling you this.
