'Teen Mom' Star Amber Portwood Charged in Assault Against Former Fiance

Talk about baby mama drama!

'Teen Mom' star Amber Portwood has been slapped with a misdemeanor and two felony charges related to three assaults on former fiance Gary Shirley, Hollywood Life reports.

Portwood's home state of Indiana considers domestic abuse in the presence of a child felonious assault, which was the case in two of Portwood's outbursts toward Shirley. The third attack occurred while the couple's baby, Leah, was elsewhere. There has been speculation that misdemeanor charges may be brought against the MTV camera crew who filmed the assault and failed to intervene, as Indiana law requires witnesses to domestic or child abuse to report the crime.

Portwood's abuse against Shirley, which occurred on July 14th, 18th, and August 14th of this year, was captured on film by MTV camera crews, although one of the incidents was never aired.

Amber, 20, who recorded a domestic violence PSA that aired on MTV following footage of the assaults, could serve up to three years in jail and pay $10,000 in fines if convicted.

Despite her on-camera compunction, Portwood has been vilified in her hometown paper, The Herald Bulletin, who had the following to say of the star: "'Teen Mom' is not the national image Anderson wants. The next time you see our teen mom in the store, point out that she is hurting this city. We don't push our loved ones down stairs. We don't take pride that our teenage girls are 16 and pregnant. We don't all drop out of high school."

Portwood, who expressed her regret over the assaults to Dr. Drew Pinsky on the 'Teen Mom' reunion show, alleged that she "blacked out" during the attack in which she punched Shirley multiple times, claiming to only remember striking him once.

MTV issued a statement regarding their involvement in the fight, saying "Our role in 'Teen Mom' is to document how incredibly challenging and difficult being a teen parent is. In this particular instance, we monitored the situation to make sure no one was in imminent danger."

The Madison County Prosecutor's office has subpoenaed MTV for all of their unedited 'Teen Mom' footage for evidence.

Its discusting that they have shows like this on television.who really cares about someone like this that will never amout to anything. once people get tired of watching this show.She will wind up on welfair and amount to a big zero. its a shame there is a young chield involved in this....

Gary should have pressed charges against her a long time ago. Nobody should put up with that abuse. She needs to be put on medication for bipolar disorder as it is so evident that she needs it. Maybe she and her Walmart boyfriend can hook up in the slammer.

Think her baby should be taken away, if she has that kind of a temper, what chance does the baby have. Or, are they going to do something like after she hurts her, as you hear so many of these cases.

Put her in jail, take her drivers license away, find her guilty no matter what evidence or say-so, charge her with double of every possable fine known 2 mankind including a few made up ones, and when she does pay them,(if)....loose the payment's "misteriously" and make sure they all get late payment tacked onto them, then failure to pay charges will follow and so will as more jail time. TREAT HER LIKE A MALE WOULD BE TREATED!!!!!

I am happy that they are finally taking action. I always found it to be ridiculous that shs could get away with abusing him on the show. I more so found it outrageous that the camera crews never did anything, because sure enough if Gary was to knock her around a few times I bet they would have pulled him off of her. I am glad that they are being fair and not indulging in a double standard. Men get abused and women should not get away with it because abuse is abuse and it is wrong either way.

As I was watching this show i kept saying to my husband...does this girl realize she is doing this abuse to him ON TV? This girl needs some serious help. And i do not believe for a second she has not taken her anger out on her little girl in one way or another. I watch the other girls on the show who have no relationship with the babys daddy, and Gary seems like he reallyt wants to do right by his baby. As I see it, Amber has some serious issues and should only have supervised visits with that poor baby!!!!
She evidently has some mental issues she needs to work through herself. I hope she gets help and doesnt abuse the "medication" she takes. Therapy is a MUST!!!!. This will not go away overnight. She needs intensive ongoing therapy. Does she realize what she is doing to Leah? That poor little girl will unfortunately have to have intensive therapy as well.

Gary is definitely a lazy slob and I can see getting frustrated with him, but too hit him and flip out on him with cameras rolling.Does the uneducated bimbo know this is against the law?She needs too sit back and see how out of control she was and get help so she can be a good mom too her daughter. Leah is the one paying for her parents stupidity! Gary did show alot of restraints by not hitting back, but then again maybe he is not as stupid as he acts on the show he knew the cameras were rolling and he would have everything on tape if there were to be a custody battle.He always seemed so cool and in control like he was playing for cameras. Maybe he is smarter than we give him credit for!
