Billy Joel Undergoes Double Hip Surgery

Billy Joel got double hip surgery in Long Island, New York, last week,
RadarOnline.com reports.
"He did them both at the same time," said the piano man's ex-wife, Christie Brinkley. "Billy said, 'If I do it one at a time I know I'll never go in for the other.'"
Joel was using a cane to help with his congenital hip ailment recently. With the surgery comes a plan to return to performing live.
"This is the longest time I've had off in I don't know how long," Joel told WENN this week. "And I had fun. But I'm ready to start playing again."
After the surgery, Brinkley said, "He's really doing well. He's really coming through with flying colors."
In fact Brinkley, who was married to Joel for nine years and has a daughter, Alexa Ray, with him, says, "He's making it look easy."

How nice that has ben super model uptown girl Christie Brinkley still seems to care about Billy. Maybe there'll be a reconciliation? I'm a sucker for happy endings.

I'm with you - I've always loved them as a couple and felt like anyone they each married subsequent to their divorce was a runner-up!

Double? That'll certainly lay him up for quite awhile.

You are brave having both at once Billy, but in a month you'll forget they are there.

The first time I saw Billy he sat at the piano the whole time and did his thing. The last time (right after his divorce from Katie) he was running around stage, flipping his mike stand in the air and wearing a Yankee cap backwards, tiring me out just watching him. No wonder his hips need help :)

"congenital hip ailment": translation: avascular necrosis caused by poor circulation to the hip joints. Possible root cause of avascular necrosis: lifetime of heavy drinking. Ask any orthopedic doctor. Had a friend who went through it, not fun, especially to do both hips at same time. Recovery with therapy is more like three to four months.

Congenital means you're born with the problem. "A congenital disorder, or congenital disease, is a condition existing at birth and often before birth, or that develops during the first month of life ..."
hes had bad hip issues since a motorcycle accident he had 20 years ago ..... just finally catching up with him
Change that from liguy to LIEguy
are you sure that isn't an excuse that he is divorcing his current wife again?

Wow, am double proud that he double did it in all in one swoop! The Only way to do it, says I. No point in delaying the obvious. For whatever reason which caused it, I am always in awe of the Doctors and Researchers who allow this type of work to be done without a lot of fluff are the True Heros! In addition, this will not affect Billies brain to write or voice to sing. Has he quit cigs?

Lets hope that tough ex marine goes thru this with flying colors. Have always loved his music and he carried the ammo for a friend of mine who carried the 60 caliber in Viet Nam. Dan

60 caliber? Perhaps the M-60 (7.62 mm - Full metal jacket)? Billy Joel a former Marine? I don't think so.
Do you mean the 50 caliber machine gun? Never heard of a 60 caliber? The ARMY at that time used the m-60, 50 caliber and Stoner(experimental) machine guns.
For all the hours I have spent listening to Billy Joel's music I have to take a moment to wish him a speedy recovery and to thank him for all the hours of entertainment and toe tapping joy he has given me over the years. Hope he will be back on stage soon.
