'Hurt Locker' Star Jeremy Renner May Take Over 'Mission: Impossible' Franchise

When Jeremy Renner was cast as
Tom Cruise's co-star in 'Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol,' rumors spread that the franchise would continue afterward without Cruise, with Renner taking over as the series' lead.
Renner is best know for his Oscar-nominated performance in 'The Hurt Locker' and stole the show in Ben Affleck's recent hit 'The Town.' When he spoke to
MTV News, Renner gave a slight nod to the rumor: "It's a franchise to potentially take over. I can't predict the future and what they want, but that's certainly the idea."
Renner is currently in Dubai filming 'Ghost Protocol.' He declined to say whether a hand-off, if any, is written into the script or if it's something that would become clear in a future sequel. "I can't really go into the details of the script, because that's still evolving," he said. "It's Tom's baby. He's the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we'll see."
When asked about Cruise doing his own stunts -- like the one where he
scaled the world's tallest building in Dubai -- Renner calls the work "insane" and confirmed Cruise is doing the majority of his own stunt work.
Renner revealed that he hasn't had a chance to do much acting for the movie yet. He has, however, been training in hand-to-hand combat, Muay Thai and kung fu and has even "learned how to take a guy out quickly." When asked what his most extreme stunt was, he answered, "everything."

Renner would save the franchise for sure! tom should look into joining the circus or volunteering in africa where he could do some good. Toms "career" is OVER.

From really bad to worse... Cuise is not the most attractive man out there, but replacing him with Renner is just plain wrong...

Mission Impossible was never supposed to be about a solo hero like Bourne. The whole point to Mission Impossible was the TEAM, where everyone had different skills and worked together and relied on each other to pull these amazing jobs off. The franchise was ruined for me when Cruise, ahem the producers, killed off all Cruise's team members in the first ten minutes of the first movie.
If they revive M.I., please make it a true ensemble cast.

I'm just happy they are keeping the franchise going! Tom Cruise was great and I'm sure Jeremy will do just fine taking the torch. Bring on more Mission Impossibles!

Cruise's life is a mission impossible. Kooky, crazy, looney tunes scientology.

He's an overrated actor, a mental midget and a looney, and it pains me to listen to him yabber about his usual nothing.

As far as I'm concerned, there goes the franchise, and there goes Tom Cruise. That was a roll he could still bring his audience back with....Huge mistake if Tom was the one to leave.

The only man I care about in this movie is Josh Holloway.

It is funny to me how many people hate Tom Cruise just because they do not agree with everything in his personal life. If you knew everything about all of the other celebrities, you wouldn't like them either. Also, I am pretty sure Tom will not lose any sleep about people who do not like him. Now run along little sheep.

I've liked tom as the lead in the films, but feel from the conclusion of the third film that
someone else could step in as a new mission impossible lead,( not playing the same character
but a new one).
