James Franco and Anne Hathaway to Host Oscars
James Franco and
Anne Hathaway are hoping for some Oscar season magic this year, but what they didn't anticipate was hosting the show entirely. Franco and Hathaway are going to helm the 83rd Academy Awards show on Feb. 27, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
Twitter.
"OFFICIAL: James Franco & Anne Hathaway to host #Oscars. Tweet them your advice! #Hosts#Oscars," the academy tweeted.
The news was initially reported as a rumor from
Deadline Hollywood, saying it "looks like" both actors have supposedly accepted.

Both actors are vying for nominations for the 2011 awards with Franco in '127 Hours' and Hathaway in 'Love and Other Drugs,' which makes for a strange scenario if both are nominated for Best Actress and Best Actor.
Franco, 32, and Hathaway, 28, will be the youngest tandem of Academy Award hosts ever. Goldie Hawn was 30-years old when she co-hosted the 1975 show.
Here are some mixed reactions on the Academy's
Facebook page:
Andres Landaeta: "James Franco? Hmm....That is an odd pair. Somehow I don't feel good about the oscars as I used to. But hopefully they will get better soon... Soon."
Rousse M. Cortes: "Amazing duo! It will be a great view. ;)"
Stuart Mohr: "I get the 'youthful element' but why tap two potential nominees to host the show? Isn't that kind of tacky?"
Ivana Ondrejkova: "WOW AWESOME!!!! I love both of them! CANNOT WAIT! The last year's pairing - Martin and Baldwin - were great as well as Hugh Jackman the year before. So I'm really excited about seeing these two."
JoAnne Hesketh Mcdonald: "Um.... really! Why? I don't get it. Great actors....but not to host."
Kristen Cunha: "Franco is crazy so that could be fun lol"

Oscars sucks! No one goes to the movies anymore to watch the actors.
It's all special affects they look for. Actors today are from the
bottom of the barrell. There's no more real good actors in Hollywood
anymore. There all plastic dummies
They don't even respect the kids who go to there movies. There all crapy roll models. I mean crapy!

Darn I was hoping for Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin again. They were fantastic.

I was hoping that they would pick Betty White! If you want high ratings right now, Betty White is the answer! She is hot right now!

How does it figure that James Franco and Anne Hathaway are big enough stars to host the Oscars?

Where's Lisa Lampanelli when you need her?

I think they will likely add a new level of sheer boredom and who cares to a dull show. There seems to be no creativity left on TV.

Might as well let Steven Wright host! It's usually a borefest as it is, so it couldn't get any more dullified.

Don't these people get tired of pretending? Don't they long to live "real life"?

Did they miss anyone who would be in the diverse category...why don't you just say who's missing instead of pissing that there's no one in photo. About Will Smiths kids...problem...they're just plain obnoxious!!!!! They'd ruin Anne....in fact spare us the entire family....

After watching the Oscars, all I could keep thinking was "Get Franco OFF OF THE STAGE"!! He was absolutely HORRIBLE as a host. He was so wooden, no personality at all, his eyes were squinting throughout the whole thing, he was the WORST host ever!! He should not host another Oscar night ever again, he was so bad. Bring back Billy Crystal or someone with at least a hint of personality. Thank god for Anne Hathaway, at least she was smiling and trying to host!
