Johnny Depp Reveals Why He Hasn't Married Longtime Girlfriend Vanessa Paradis

Johnny Depp and longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis have been a couple for more than 12 years and have two children--but marriage isn't happening anytime soon. The critically acclaimed actor reveals to Extra why they haven't tied the knot.

"I never found myself needing that piece of paper," Depp confessed. "Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart. You don't need somebody to say, okay you're married... If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not... But the thing is, I'd be so scared of ruining her last name. She's got such a good last name."

The actor also revealed his holiday plans with Paradis and his kids, Lily-Rose Melody, 11, and John Christopher, 8: "Sleeping, sleeping and playing with a lot of toys with my son. Hanging out with the kiddies."

He concluded the interview by talking about Angelina Jolie, his co-star in the upcoming flick, 'The Tourist.' "She's just a regular gal... with a perverse sense of humor. She's got a vivid and energetic sense of humor. She doesn't mind traveling to the dark or to the very weird."

One of the things that I admired about Depp is the fact that he keeps his private life low key. He doesn't feel the need to tell every little thing he does. I like the mystery .Reminds me of the old time movie "stars" that were like that. I have never seen a Depp movie that I didn't like.

One of my friends is part Cherokee Indian and half Euro sludge and he is a nut, let me say. His recent stunt involved kicking an EMT in the chest after his dad took him to the Er for a bump on his head and they found drugs on him, ugh oh. He's really insane, he steals from people with no remorse and he even tried to beat me up once.

My thoughts are perhaps she does not want to share all of herself with him. Perhaps she does not want to be legally tied to him? This way she can pack up and leave or kick him out if it is her home.

For all intents and purposes (including familiy law) they are married. The difference is that they did not have a wedding, which are nothing more than parents showing themselves off to a bunch of people who are really only there for the food.
