Johnny Depp Reveals Why He Hasn't Married Longtime Girlfriend Vanessa Paradis

Johnny Depp and longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis have been a couple for more than 12 years and have two children--but marriage isn't happening anytime soon. The critically acclaimed actor reveals to Extra why they haven't tied the knot.

"I never found myself needing that piece of paper," Depp confessed. "Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart. You don't need somebody to say, okay you're married... If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not... But the thing is, I'd be so scared of ruining her last name. She's got such a good last name."

The actor also revealed his holiday plans with Paradis and his kids, Lily-Rose Melody, 11, and John Christopher, 8: "Sleeping, sleeping and playing with a lot of toys with my son. Hanging out with the kiddies."

He concluded the interview by talking about Angelina Jolie, his co-star in the upcoming flick, 'The Tourist.' "She's just a regular gal... with a perverse sense of humor. She's got a vivid and energetic sense of humor. She doesn't mind traveling to the dark or to the very weird."

Awe, that's nothing, my husband and I were going steady for 14 years before he proposed, and then two more years before we got married. He wanted to "make sure" =). And we've been married 6 years, now, so I guess you can say, "it's working out."

Obviously Vanessa is okay with this or she would've left along time ago.
Brooke Burke and her fiance' David Charvet...they have 2 children together, if he hasn't married her by now...probably not gonna.

Not a fan of Johnny Depp. I do however, like some of the stuff he has done like Blow. He is just too weird for me. For heaven's sake, just be honest....you don't want to marry her because you don't want to lose your fortune to the mother of your children should there be a divorce. Newsflash....she can keep the name.

I love Depp's movies, I dont understand or agree with his moral character. Not just on this marriage thing...but MOST of his opinions are just.....weird. Examples: when he went to the school to ENCOURAGE the the girl who wrote to him to be "rebellious" using his "pirate character" as a good example to kids...And he ALSO supports that weird guy Polanski who raped that young girl years ago and believes the guy is being treated unfairly. Yeah, he is a strange one. So because of that I have chosen NOT to support his movies. Its called SACRIFE for what I believe in. It hurts, yeah, because he IS a great actor...but isnt THAT was sacrifice is all about??? Im sure he isnt missing MY contribution...but I feel good about it..so thats all that matters to me in the long run. I stood up for what I believe in.

It means "dimwit", in the sense that Thomas Edison was called an "idiot" or Einstein was called "addled" - an insulting term for a non-conformist, one who thinks differently from the majority, not necessarily one who is genuinely lacking in cognitive faculties. Seems rather appropriate.

I'm still trying to figure out why this is news. Are we as Americans that bored with our own lives? I have nothing against Johnny Depp, in fact, I enjoy most of his movies but I have NO need to sit around wondering a) why he's not married yet to his significant other, b)what he's doing for Christmas and c) where his name came from. If those things turn you on, then folks, you REALLY need to get a life. Now this doesn't bother me because I know he has no more interest in those things about me than I do him. Can't we let celebrities just live their lives?
