Kim Kardashian's Coffin-Posing Fundraiser Makes Slow Start
Kim Kardashian and stars like
Lady Gaga and
Justin Timberlake may be gone from Twitter longer than we thought. Yesterday the stars shut down their social networking venues until $1 million is donated to raise awareness and money for World AIDS Day and
Keep a Child Alive.
Now that World AIDS Day (Dec. 1) is over, it looks like there's a long way to go until we'll be seeing any tweets or Facebook updates from Kim, Gaga, JT and other participating celebs like
Ryan Seacrest,
Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Elijah Wood and Serena Williams -- the donations stand at just over $160,000 as of Thursday morning. Reaching the $1 million mark could stretch deep into December.
The event was organized by
Alicia Keys, the global ambassador for Keep a Child Alive. "Once I got people on the phone, and I was able to paint the concept for them, everybody was in," she told the UK's
Daily Mail.
Keys' husband, Swizz Beats, also participated with a coffin photo.

Leigh Blake, president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive, said of the dramatic campaign: "We're trying to sort of make the remark: Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we're all from?"
Several of the stars went so far as to film "last tweet and testament" videos. "I've decided to sacrifice my digital life to help give real life to millions of people affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India," Kim says in her
video. "It's true, I'm a little obsessed with Twitter, but I'm even more obsessed with fighting AIDS."
Keep a Child Alive is dedicated to providing life-saving treatment, care and support services to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India by directly engaging the global public in the fight against AIDS.

As many have pointed out. Why doesn't Kim and Alicia and the rest simply write a check. 1 million is a small amount. So shut up and put your money where your mouth is. Kim, A;licia write a check.

Im a 53 year old rich guy, those young chicks are brainless and all they want is your money and they treat as so , treat ya like a king? LOL thats a good one.
As usual, this brainless hooker has overestimated her appeal.
Maybe these stars should each donate one million dollars that we all know they can spare. I understand the concept and absolutely support the fight against AIDS, but these celebrity millionaires who spend more money on one pair of shoes than I spend on rent could really make a more tremendous impact if they sacrificed their own money too.

Agreed. They should put their money where their mouth is. Who cares if they stay off twitter? If they want to influence people to give then they need to put up or shut up.
It may be a good cause, but the concept behind it seems stupid. Who the hell cares if Kim Kardashian sends tweets or not? I agree that perhaps Kim herself and these other big celebrities should donate as well as the people they are asking to donate money. It seems they give their time for publicity, but hold on to their money.

So true, They think if their name or face is on something that makes them so very special. They need to give up some of their money.

In the past when celebrities helped raise money they get paid a fortune to do it. How is that helping raise money?
This picture just made my day, until I read it wasn't real.

It may have worked much better if kim would have laid in the coffin correctly. Kim is always thinking about how she looks, does she know that can mess up a good cause?
How many times have we all been to a funeral, and the body was laid in the coffin as kim laid? NOT ONE TIME.
Kim and her hollywood friends and all the rich and famous should give until it hurts.. Us working Americans are broke.
We are having a difficult time as is, and were suppose to give up our last dollar? I dont think so at this time.

I agree with you.....I cannot even go out to eat and Im worrying about paying my bills......and I know alot of people are struggling.....When I was working full-time I gave to charities all the time...
So these celebrities are genuinely certifiable that we even give a damn that WE would give a red cent just to hear them tweet again...I am not putting down the charity--children should be helped everywhere...
Call me bitter, but we shouldn't hear that that cow Kim just bought a house in Beverly Hills??
I hate to see the charity lose money but if thats what it tskes to keep kim kardashian off twitter and every other form of print so be it

Cause aside, I'm all for keeping keeping them quiet for as long a possible. If you support the cause, please do donate, but not for this campaign...Keep Them Quiet!

Too bad the headline isn't real. Who cares about this cosmetic gargoyle. (My apologies to all the gargoyles out there.)

Is there a way that the one million can be reached without Kim knowing about it? Keep her out of the media as long as possible, please

why are we so worried about AIDS in Africa? 25 million AMERICANS have died of AIDS. My brother died 4 months ago from AIDS. why are we trying so hard, and raising so much money when not even out own people will benefit, why help someone else who is wounded when youre shot in the leg yourself.

Now if only they would CLOSE the lid to the coffin. Honestly the Kardashians especially Kim are so over exposed ( pun may be taken as intended.) They are a joke and everyone knows it but them apparently. Who seriously gives a #rap if they Twitter? Get a life and go do some real charity work you bimbos.
