Does the name Jesse Camp ring a bell? The impossible-to-forget character of late-'90s MTV fame recently surfaced in Miami and NBC Nightside snagged an impromptu on-camera interview.
At age 18, Camp, a super-skinny, spiky haired, wildly dressed fellow hoping to nab a hosting gig on 'Total Request Live,' beat out Dave Holmes for a coveted VJ spot, despite appearing to be possibly homeless.
Camp is now 30, which he calls a "milestone," telling NBC: "Wow! I have survived on this planet like, a little bit. It's pretty amazing nothing bad happened and I've been allowed to make it up to 30."
Holmes recently told fans on VYou.com, "I still get asked about him literally every single day of my life," adding he last saw Jesse at the 2008 finale of 'TRL.'
"I've mainly been living in LA and doing a lot of small, little acting things here and there," Camp says. He adds he's been doing a "top-secret traveling project," taking him to Ohama, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Florida.
Camp, who is clearly as enthusiastic and quirky as ever, also shared some big TV ambitions. "Let's just say the next year I'm gonna really hunker down and maybe take Ryan Seacrest's job or something. I'm gonna try to take that Mark McGrath route; not get on a game show necessarily, but definitely clean up a little and really put my mind to it and host something on something."

Camp was showing paintings at Miami Art Week and says he misses MTV. "That was a really, really great time. I really ought to just hunker down and get back into hosting something, definitely. I'd love to do that."
Jesse also says he may be ready to start a family.
In 2008, at the 'TRL' finale, Camp reflected on the MTV-grown fame that came after the 'Wanna Be a VJ' competition: "I really entered the contest to see the inside of the building. I mean, this was before 'American Idol' and all that. I had no idea that I could even win it, let alone that it would lead to so much. It became hysterical."

Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends..
I used to know Jesse when he lived in NY. I used to beat him with potatoes stolen from pomme frites and he would still my vodka whenever he saw me... how the hell i ever had a conversation with this person is effing beyond me. You pretty much had to be an 80's child to actually have been old or young enough (depending on your viewpoint) to be watching MTV while he was on. Let's just say it was while they were still playing music videos at least 60% of the time. He certainly wasn't on for very long and clearly has lost a few brain cells since then.
Jesse Camp doesn't deserve to be on television. I saw a video clip somewhere of him trying to get into a venue. He wasn't let in so he pulls his pants down, in public on the street, no underwear. Thank god his junk was blurred out on the video. People were saying," yuck, pull your pants up, what is wrong with you?" Too unstable for TV.
Amazing how the media keeps recycling thses losers and bringing them back into the spotlight. Kardashians, Housewives, Heidi & Spencer, Palin's, Kate plus 8, etc...
It's so funny that this article came up! I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was at a local music store last week where they had a picture of this guy hanging up in the window. Several years back he got busted at this store for stealing a Bon Jovi tape! Loser!
i remember him my mom actually voted for him to win hahaha me and my mom always wondered what happened to him?!!!! now i know. its good to see hes not dead and into drugs haha but is it me or does he look alot more mmmmmm adult now a little more sane since his younger years? i guess hes matured now.

How is he alive he was a heroin addict! I met his dealer in the downstairs of the Continental at one of his shows. jesus christ that man should not be alive!
Wow, I always wondered whatever happened to Jesse. He pretty much dropped off from the face of the earth. He was pretty much the only good thing happening to MTV. I swear, that channel is such a lost cause now. I would love to see Jesse replace that douchebag Jim Florentine on That Metal Show.
Dear God. I was betting he would have dropped the obnoxious, affected, gravelly voice and always-stoned demeanor he used to put on. Never in my worst nightmares did I think he'd trade it for nasal and effeminate.
Jesse Camp has been my friend for almost 10 years now. In the late 90's, I had given up on MTV...but then started watching again just to catch Jesse Camp and his hilarious antics. I met him by chance in Woodstock in 1999 and we became fast friends. For the record, Jesse is intelligent...funny as hell...his voice is NOT affected...and he is a walking music encyclopedia. Has he had problems? Sure. Who hasn't? These days, he's doing great. (He stayed with me last week.) Finally, I'd rather have "insane" people in my life than "sane". Much more interesting and unpredictable. Life in the fast lane, baby.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

For The Record- Camp is 31, and Omaha is a city in Nebraska. I haven't found Ohama on Map Quest yet.
