Taylor Swift Is EW's 'Entertainer of the Year'

Despite Taylor Swift's past trials and tribulations, we're all happy for her and we're going to let her finish the year out right. The 'Speak Now' singer has been named Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year for what has been a huge 12 months for the singer-songwriter. This year, Swift was everywhere; she scored four Grammy wins, a million-plus debut for her latest album and made her acting debut in 'Valentine's Day' alongside Hollywood heavyweights like Bradley Cooper and Anne Hathaway.

Swift, who is the youngest-ever recipient of the Entertainer of the Year award, sat down with EW to talk about her life, loves and new album, on which she penned all 14 tracks. "I write music about my life and love and relationships," she says. "I hope that people like it enough to bring it into their world and make it about their life and their love and their relationships."

Before 'Speak Now' was released, were you nervous about it selling?
"It was an emotional roller coaster leading up to releasing that record. I tend to live somewhere between hope and fear. I've never wavered so much in my life than I did in the weeks leading up to the record release."

Which song on the record were you most scared to write?
"I never had that feeling. There were, of course, songs on the record -- and I think you can probably use your imagination about the ones I'm talking about -- where I knew people would draw their own conclusions about who they were about. I would take a few seconds and think, 'Okay, you need to really have an idea of what you're doing here and what the consequences could be.' Because I realize there are consequences to your actions. But the reason I write songs is to help clarify how I feel and get past it. Writing a song like 'Mean' helped me. The songs on the record that are really raw-those songs helped me more than anything."

Were you surprised by how quickly and specifically people started speculating about the subjects of the songs?
"I imagined that people would make their own guesses. Sometimes I would laugh because I would see it in print and it would say, 'This song, which is written about her ex, so-and-so...' And they would write about it as if it was fact. The fact is, I haven't ever confirmed that any song is about any particular person. There's something kind of freeing about that. As far as I'm concerned, it's all still up in the air."

When you wrote 'Innocent,' did you know immediately that you would sing it on the VMAs, where Kanye West had caused that ruckus last year?
"I didn't know that until about a week out. That woke me up in the middle of the night. Before I had gone to sleep I had decided that I didn't want to perform on the show. Or even go. Then I woke up in the middle of the night and I realized that I had to, and that I wanted to perform that song."

I can see the ACID boiling in Kanye's belly. This ought to send that miserable prick right over the edge. How strange that her 'no-talent' made her number one in fourteen countries last year. Weird that the Songwriters Hall of Fame made her the youngest honoree ever, with some of the members in their nineties. Really strange that she's got the best selling album of the 21st century too. I bet not one of the knuckle-dragging chest-pounding Kayne crowd ever heard one of her albums in totality either. Taylor speaks for millions of young women and girls in her generation, and millions of young men would love to marry her, not just lay her. Wonder why? Of course, if you're training a mule sometimes you have to hit it over the head with a 2x4. I suggest you listen to the song 'Mean' on her new album. (Not 'Mine') Maybe you'll get a clue since she'll be around for the next half century when da Kanyes have been buried with da bullet in da head.

I can't believe how Taylor Swift has gotten all the awards she has. Can't understand a word she sings and a lot of her music has the same music. I don't understand how she is so idolized. All she does is pspeak the words with music behind her carrying her. I like to see how she sings without music. There are so many more deserving musicians and singers that derserve to be reconized.

I personaly believe "kanye" was right because I think he was acting like some jealous thug and serious fool at those awards when he took over and ran his mouth at music awards. Though Taylor is hot and that is all she is besides a fairly talented song writer. The music is another thing entirely which I dont think she does much of. As for her singing it pretty much is not strong enough to hold its own out there. She basicaly can't really sing that great at all. The bottom line is is that she gives good face and she is 5'11" and maybe she should just cut back to just songwriting only and try to model or do her own line of clothes designs on the side. If she sticks to that and with her young fan base already I am sure that if she had some line of dresses or jeans or some kind of clothes that she modeled or whatever I think she could really be successful at that because the girl cannot sing. I agree with another poster that she has some great PR people. Have a nice day everyone.

I saw her in concert last June and couldn't wait for it to be over. She was ok for the first hour, then you realize how her songs all sound alike. She does not have a strong voice. She is ok on radio.
I saw Carrie Underwood in March and her voice and show were great. There are far many female singers with much more talent than Taylor.

Taylor Swift, what? She cannot sing worth a darn. Plus when she does, every song sounds like the last song. Yuck!!! Please, she makes country music scream! She is not Country Music. She is, I really do not know what she is!

Yes she is pretty, blond and tall ... BUT she can't sing live for crap and she takes the term "Attitudy Judy" to a whole new level. Most of her road crew refuse to work more than one tour because she is such a "Bwitch" All her fame has gone to her head. She needs to pay her dues like Reba, and Loretta and Dolly and a whole host of others. She is a manufactured flash in the pan.
