Amber Heard Comes Out at GLAAD Awards

Amber Heard has made a name for herself by playing the object of male affection in a long list of Hollywood hits, but in real life, the actress is happily coupled with with girlfriend Tasya van Ree.

According to RadarOnline, Heard, who stars in the upcoming film 'The Rum Diary' opposite Johnny Depp, has been dating van Ree since 2008, but first admitted to the relationship publicly on Friday night at GLAAD's 25th Anniversary party.

The 'Pineapple Express' star spoke to AfterEllen.com about her choice to go public with her sexuality, telling the site, "This is the forefront of human rights... [I]f we're too scared to come out and say who we are, we'll never get anywhere."

Heard told AfterEllen that her choice to come out with van Ree at the GLAAD event was a decision to which she had given some thought. "I think GLAAD is one of the many reasons that I, as a 24-year-old, can come out," she said. "I think that the injustice of people staying in the closet is more than I can bear with a clear conscience."

As for her choice of partner, Heard said of her artist girlfriend, "She's so beautiful. I mean, you'd have to be crazy not to want to go out with her!"

Julie, you "caps lock" key is stuck on all caps and heart and mind are stuck on all hate. Amber Heard has made a statement about personal integrity, which is more important than career. (However, I'm sure she will act as long as she wants to). the 90%:10% split is debatable, but even a minority citizen group is entitled to the same rights as the majority. A loving secure home is not confusing, even if attacked by the uncaring and vengeful. What confuses children is divorce and trying to accept the end of love... if you wanted to preserve marriage rights, you would spend some time preventing divorce in your family and worry less about other families.
PS... my children are just fine, thank you. Happy holidays.

I give her credit for being WHO SHE IS, and not trying to live a lie, or create some story, or fabricated life, or artfully dodge the questions when the media asks about "ARE YOU DATING, AND WHO". I only hope that this doesn't now negatively affect her carrier! It is ashame that even in 2010 people will still use her personal life against her. Sick. Why not keep this to herself. What do we the public care abour her sexaulity? It this now some sort of badge of honor or do these people just want some sort of acceptance, like, "It's OK, you are now a protected species".

Thats all nice but what do you mean not living a lie, she has been living a lie most of her career and came out only because she knew it was going to be exposed by TMZ. she has been living the lie and enjoying it.
