Britney Spears and boyfriend Jason Trawick ended a tumultuous week filled with abuse allegations by spending a few romantic days in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

"They suntanned and did a lot of relaxing and decompressing," says a PEOPLE source. "They seemed very much in love."

Trawick reportedly set up the getaway, timed around Spears' 29th birthday on Dec. 2. They were spotted cavorting hand-in-hand on the beach over the weekend.

Of course, this all comes on the heels of an explosive report by Star magazine, which claims to have tapes of phone conversations between Spears and her ex-husband, Jason Alexander. On the tapes, a voice attributed to Spears says Trawick "beat on" her.
