PETA Responds Sharply to Sarah Palin's Caribou Killing

Sunday night's episode of '
Sarah Palin's Alaska' featured a pretty graphic scene featuring the former vice presidential candidate shooting and killing a caribou--and several animal rights groups, including PETA, aren't happy too about it.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) vice president Dan Mathews released a statement to
Fancast sharing his thoughts.
"Sarah seems to think that resorting to violence and blood and guts may lure people into watching her boring show. But the ratings remain as dead as the poor animals she shoots," the statement said.
Palin, for her part, guessed that the show might make waves and issued several statements of her own on Facebook and Twitter--before the show even aired. "Tonight's hunting episode 'controversial'?" she wrote on her Facebook page Sunday. "Really? Unless you've never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather couch or eaten a piece of meat, save your condemnation of tonight's episode. I remain proudly intolerant of anti-hunting hypocrisy."
In Sunday's show, Palin defended the act of hunting, saying that it's a common way to collect food for the cold months. "Hunting is something most Alaskans do to fill their freezer with meat for the winter," the former Alaskan governor said.
The controversial scene featured Palin shooting the animal and the caribou dropping to the ground, dead. Later in the episode, the hunters cut up the caribou so they can transfer it back home and save it in the freezer. "When you see that you have a successful hit, it's a great feeling of accomplishment," Palin summarized.
Next week episode of 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' features Kate Gosselin and her eight kids accompanying Palin on a camping trip.

Did You Know? A caribou is just a North American name for a reindeer. A male caribou will try to look his best during mating season by refusing to eat in order to lose most of his body fat. Males will battle other males for the right to a female to mate with. Males are also ladies' men, posssibly having up to 20 partners.

Maybe they SHOULD have shown the suffering the caribou went through, so people could see what hunting is REALLY about.
Thank you. Fresh organic meat with no added chemicals.
They're not killing to kill, they're killing to eat.
Animal right groups get over yourself, if you had it your way animals would be controling people. Watch national Geographics sometime it's survival of the fittest. Animals don't care how they kill their food, shooting an animal is not inhumaine. I am so sick of you people. Noone is making you kill or eat an animal but you think it's ok to tell everyone else what they can and cannot do. Shut up noone cares about what you think. If we don't kill animals they will overpopulate and spread disease. Get a brain.

animals kill in the quickest way possible so they can eat fast and not get harmed by there prey. most americans only hunt for sport so what are you talking about, what ever happened to being stewards of the earth as the bible says?
have you ever heard of niche and carrying capacity, its what stops animals from over populating bty, people just cause extinction due to habitat loss.
Wow, it is amazing how there is so much wrong with your statement. First, if animals would spread disease, by eating them you would get disease as well, i.e. mad cow. Second, shooting an animal is inhumane, (or as you say inhumaine, but I'm sure you also pronounce nuclear newcular). PETA is an animal rights group, so when there is such a blatant and upsetting display of the mistreatment of animals, i.e. killing a caribou for ratings of a horrible show, they are going to speak out. So, yes those who are members of PETA or animal rights supporters do care what PETA says. If Ms. Palin wants to run for office in 2012 (that must be why they say the world is going to end in December 2012), then she should care what PETA has to say. PETA is an outspoken group and sometimes over the top, but their hearts are in the right place, speaking for animals without a voice, unlike Palin shooting animals without a defense. They have millions of supporters, so Palin should "care" what they have to say, as they have the potential to affect her support. No one is saying what you can or can't do, but it is not wise to shoot a defenseless animal on national television, when many of the citizens in the United States do not look kindly to murder for ratings. Shouldn't it be a true fight and Palin take down the caribou without a weapon at all? But, she would probably just quit that fight, as she did with her job as Governor of Alaska.
".........overpopulate and spread disease."
Sure you're not referring to humans?
Pleeze larn how to spel. It makes you sound so much more intelligent.
Also, tolerance of others and their right to their opinions is sort of an
intrinsic part of being part of this country.
Thank you and Merry Christmas.
To everyone else with a different viewpoint, Happy Holiday Season
The PETA crowd is really a two-faced organization that goes to stupid lengths to push their warped views on everyone, while practicing hypocrisy of the highest order. They masquerade the euthansia scams they operate while consistently raising money under false pretenses.
Of course there is nothing 'wrong' with hunting or fishing for food. That is what animals and fish are here for. If you are too squimish to gut and dress a deer or clean a fish, then go to your local butcher shop or fish shop to buy your protein.
So...we should rid the world of people like you too?????
You spread disease, use up the earth's resources, and you pollute both the air and this blog with your crap.
Animals over overpopulate? And I bet you're allowed to vote, you moron.
Beth, I wonder how exactly you would feel if someone shot and killed you in order to eat you when there is no need or in order to control the out of control human population. Would you consider that humane?
Caribu burgers are great!!Go Sarah 2012!!

You must be from another planet.

Who is this woman kidding. At what point did her family survive on animals she killed. She has access to any food she wants, grown from wherever she wants. The fact that this woman, who would even attempt a run for the presidency,is more than chilling. I disagree with her on all her neanderthal views on social issues and; especially her views on a woman's right to choose. The fact that she has a big gun and the moose does not, says something about her morality. (majority aside)

Margaret, margaret, margaret......you truly are a pathetic woman. First there was nothing controversial about the hunt. Second because she is PRO LIFE doesnt meant her views are "neandertal".... In fact when you support the willing KILLING of unborn children.... you show your own animalistic nature. Women using abortion as birth control. Too lazy, too unintelligent, too scared to do the right thing and tell the boys or men NO. Take away all the abortions due to birth control and you leave a few thousand due to rape. Last I heard rape is still a crime. So which do you support margaret?
So buying the meat in sterile wrappers at the supermarket is ok? Hunting is way more humane than the way stock animals are killed for food, if you eat meat or wear leather, then you really need to educate yourself or shut the heck up..So because she has money she should not hunt but it's ok to stock up at the market? REALLY? what a bunch of libtards..if you eat meat from the supermarket then you are way more guilty of animal cruelty than a hunter will ever be..educate yourself or shut the heck up...
Dear S321Saint,
I guess Bristol Palin is (in your words) "Too lazy, too unintelligent, too scared to do the right thing and tell the boys or men NO."
And what is this "animalistic" thing you mentioned? We are animals. Though you think like a vegetable...
And u have a big gun."Your mouth" thats what has got this country where it is today. In NEVER NEVER LAND. that's where we are headed, Or are we already there? People who speak only because what they think and not for what do or know sorrow me.
Pretty pathetic to kill an animal for ratings....
