PETA Responds Sharply to Sarah Palin's Caribou Killing

Sunday night's episode of '
Sarah Palin's Alaska' featured a pretty graphic scene featuring the former vice presidential candidate shooting and killing a caribou--and several animal rights groups, including PETA, aren't happy too about it.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) vice president Dan Mathews released a statement to
Fancast sharing his thoughts.
"Sarah seems to think that resorting to violence and blood and guts may lure people into watching her boring show. But the ratings remain as dead as the poor animals she shoots," the statement said.
Palin, for her part, guessed that the show might make waves and issued several statements of her own on Facebook and Twitter--before the show even aired. "Tonight's hunting episode 'controversial'?" she wrote on her Facebook page Sunday. "Really? Unless you've never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather couch or eaten a piece of meat, save your condemnation of tonight's episode. I remain proudly intolerant of anti-hunting hypocrisy."
In Sunday's show, Palin defended the act of hunting, saying that it's a common way to collect food for the cold months. "Hunting is something most Alaskans do to fill their freezer with meat for the winter," the former Alaskan governor said.
The controversial scene featured Palin shooting the animal and the caribou dropping to the ground, dead. Later in the episode, the hunters cut up the caribou so they can transfer it back home and save it in the freezer. "When you see that you have a successful hit, it's a great feeling of accomplishment," Palin summarized.
Next week episode of 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' features Kate Gosselin and her eight kids accompanying Palin on a camping trip.

Did You Know? A caribou is just a North American name for a reindeer. A male caribou will try to look his best during mating season by refusing to eat in order to lose most of his body fat. Males will battle other males for the right to a female to mate with. Males are also ladies' men, posssibly having up to 20 partners.

It's a Wannabe Man
The ethical treatment of an animal that is permitted by law and nature to be hunted, is to make a clean kill and do not waste the animal. I fully believe that Mrs. Palin and her family intend to consume or share the meat and hide...they're probably eating caribou steak right now.
And PETA, you can eat one too!

Well Well People and PETA GET over it, go find something else to chew on ! If there is one thing that Sarah does it is to bring to light the way most of America feels about what is right and wrong. Teddy Roosevelt did not get this kind of ridicule and look what it brought to light, National Parks, PETA doesn't realize that the America Hunter fund most of Americas Wild Game Regulars. Some of you animals lover are one sided and really need to take a step back and see what would happen if the HUNTER was taken out of the equation.

Yes hunting is a way that alot of people feed their families, but that's people that don't have alot of money, and that meat feeds them for months. The Palin's on the other hand do have alot of money, so they don't NEED to hunt, they can send one of their maids (or the nanny, because they have both) to buy some meat that's already been killed, it isn't necessary for them to hunt. She's just trying to get attention and be controversial, she is trying to make herself and her family likeable to the american people because she's planning a presidential run in 2012. So she is trying to appeal to alot of the people who are pro gun, pro hunting, conservative, Christian, etc. I personally am against hunting, i do think you have the right to bear arms and protect your home and family, i am a Christian, not really conservative, or liberal (depends on the issue), but i think this woman is a disgusting human being, i think she is an idiot and ignorant, and we'll be in big trouble if she is elected in 2012.

Paying other people to kill an animal so that you can avoid the anguish of it and still have meat for your supper does not necessarily put you on the higher moral ground.
Hunting is a lot more humane than the slaughter houses Safeway gets their meat from.
WOW THAT IS REAL CHRISTIAN LIKE TO CALL SOMEONE SUCH HORRIBLE NAMES!!! STFU IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE, TO HUNT IS A WAY OF LIFE. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT CHANGE THE CHANNEL MORON!!!
I think it bears repeating here that the meat industry is rife with inhumane treatment of animals and, although the meat you buy is nice and pretty in it's little package, it WAS an animal that was killed...the processed meat didn't just jump up on the table. PITA needs to concern themselves with REAL animal cruelty. What Sarah did was not offensive we're just not used to seeing our meat being killed...out of sight, out of mind for some eh?
PETA should stand for People Eating Tasty Animals!!! This guy is an IDIOT!!!! Bet he enjoys a good steak at Outback, has expensive leather seats in his SUV and wears the best leather shoes money can buy. What a hypcrite!!! I wonder if killing a cow in a slaughter house is 'more humane' than shooting a caribou in the open? Oh, and by the way....did I mention that this guy is an IDIOT?

I think both Sarah Palin and PETA are both sounding boards for their own agendas. They are both clearly over the top. If you listen to PETA, they would have no animal being harmed and that includes killing for sustinance(sp). Hunting is a necessary evil, to be good stewards of our Earth we must control the growth and health of our wildlife. All wildlife both animal and forest. Sarah Palin on the other hand is using the NRA and the right to bear arms only to garner what few votes she can get in order to see if see has a chance in 2012... She will not, and she therefore cannot run again as a presidential canidate. So now she is simply "cashing in" or out... your preference. Just sayin...

I think we should put the Antlers on you since you suggested it.
I agree with the poster who observed that Sarah Palin made 12 million last year, and her daughter, Bristol, recently earned 375,000 on DWTS.
They do not need to slaughter caribou to eat -- they can go to the grocery store for their vittles.
Killing for sport is cruel and abhorent and I'm surprised TLC allowed it.
