Charlize Theron's $20,000 Date Night

Charlize Theron hosted her annual Africa Outreach Project Benefit at The Darby restaurant in New York on Monday and one winner paid $20,000 to take her to a Lakers game. Originally, the auction was just a pair of courtside tickets, but Theron volunteered to accompany the winner.

"The bets got larger and larger. What guy wouldn't want to be sitting court side next to Charlize? She's gorgeous," an event organizer tells PopEater.

Proceeds from the evening will be used to fund work to improve the lives of children and communities in South Africa, with a special focus on combating HIV and AIDS.

Theron was joined by friends and supporters including Liv Tyler, Johnny Knoxville, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Westfeldt, Michelle Trachtenberg, Petra Nemcova and Russell Simmons. Guests were treated to a private dinner and live auction as well as a VIP performance by Mos Def.

Who would pay 20,000 to spend time with her? I don't like her or her movies. I think she can go back to S. Africa whenever she wants to.

Technically, yes? South Africa is on the continent of Africa so yes she is African-American if she has dual citizenship..PS..I like your sense of humor..very sharp!!

While I'm sure this is important, there's already lots of charities that go towards South African children with AIDS/HIV. Yet, I can't help but wonder why AMERICAN celebrities aren't using their fame to raise donations for helping out AMERICANS living in the US. Especially at this time of year so many Americans are struggling to feed their children, let alone have any semblance of a Christmas. It makes me sick that none of these celebrities are helping out Americans in need.

Maybe because the level of poverty in the U.S. is nowhere near the level of poverty and suffering in third world countries. Geography should hardly be a factor in helping people who are most in need.
