Teens Becoming Pregnant to Get on 'Teen Mom'?

Now that 'Teen Mom' cast members like Amber Portwood are in their twenties,
MTV is looking for a new crop of teenage girls to keep its monster hits 'Teen Mom' and '16 and Pregnant' alive, and [surprise!] industry insiders tell me young ladies are so eager to be on reality TV that they are actually getting pregnant just to score an audition. OK, not much of a surprise. Simply take a spin around the various Internet forums filled with young girls inquiring about what's required to score a role.
"This is yet another example of the desperation of fame," Matt Titus, a relationship expert from
TheLoveConsultants.com, tells me. "The sad state of reality television has created a lowbrow vehicle for untainted train wreck personalities to display their private lives. Getting pregnant to be famous is like eating as many cockroaches as possible in a one minute period."
(Didn't they do that on 'Survivor'?)
Casting any reality show right is essential to whether it is a hit or not. Networks spend top dollar auditioning throughout the country to make sure they get the right mix. However, what makes 'Teen Mom' and '16 and Pregnant' both so difficult to cast is that, thankfully, the "talent pool" of potential stars that are both pregnant
and teenagers is relatively small.
Mommy expert Beth Feldman, creator of
RoleMommy.com, says it would be "horrifying" if teens are actually getting pregnant for a TV show. "Becoming a parent is a responsibility that no one should take lightly, and for a teenager to think that a pregnancy could lead to instant fame and fortune is absurd. Parenting is a lifetime commitment and teens have there own lives ahead of them. Let them grow up before they take the responsibility of caring for another human being."
Rabbi Shmuely Boteach, a friend of the late Michael Jackson and author of 'Kosher Sex,' agrees. "This is out of control celebrity culture. Reality TV first began by exploiting people's problems, assuming they would do anything for fame. The idea of teenage girls getting pregnant to be on television shows that reality TV is going a step beyond exploiting problems. It is now creating the problems."
Anyone who has had a child knows that it is the most serious commitment a person can make. Rabbi Shmuley correctly points out that when young girls begin making this ultimate decision in order find fame, it "shows the moral rot in American society."
"These girls are ignoring the fact that this decision must followed by a lifetime of responsibility," he says.
Maybe my friend Jane Velez-Mitchell, host of the hit HLN show 'Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell,' says it best: "Children should not be having children, period."

Is Bristol Palin a LITTLE PROSTITUTE, or is that title just reserved for the poor teenage mothers? Teenagers shouldn't be having children period. It doesn't matter what their family's social status is.I love this , So does My boyfriend .he is almost 11year older than me .i met him via agegapsingl es.c 'om a nice place for seeking age le ss love.which gives you a chance to make your life better and open opportunities for you to meet the attractive young girls and treat you like a king. Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends.. Just love it
My God! While the responsibility for their ignorance lies totally on the kids themselves, it is incredibly unfortunate that trashy shows like Teen Mom are putting these kids and their mistakes on such a pedestal and made into celebs. That's a great model for kids. This makes me sick to my stomach. Bristol Palin is no different. She just has a family with enough money to support her mistakes.

I couldn't have said it better myself. RIGHT ON!
You are right on point. The producers should be held responsible for all the care of the new born children.
I remember back to when young girls just got a dog instead..

or played barbies or rode their bikes or went on group movie dates..what happened to doing that? i knew from the second i heard about this show that this would happen. girls would want to be just like maci or farrah. & yes i watch it & know their names. im guilty.
What happened is that it's no longer "cool" to be a kid. With all the sex in the media, children feel like they have to prostitute themselves to get attention. Always trying to one-up the guy/girl next to them.
Nowadays, it seems like these girls just want to have more sex than in the past
Perhaps if all these young mom's had to live like they did in the "old days" say 60's and if they or their parents couldn't pay for the dr and hospital they had their babies in a charity hopsital naturally ..ya know without epidural, pain killers etc. Ya didn't see tooo many unwed moms having more than one child. If you make it you should pay for it no wic, medicaid, etc...I sure had to pay for mine, took out a bank loan, paid doctor weekly and we wound up doing fine...on our own. OH yeah easier to be a TV "star"...yeah right

I was saying this a while back. TV shows like teen mom glorify being a teenage mom and may prompt the poor and emotionally needy and the selfish, attention seekers to get pregnant just for a shot at what think is stardom. What happened to the days when responsible adults are shocked at a teenage pregnancy and there was outrage? Well the upside is there may be less abortions.
Reply
ddhertoo, shock went the way of a good spanking. if you punish a child for doing something wrong, they won't listen when you tell them not to fool around with boys. also,as soon as they find out they are not going to be on the show , the baby isn't necessary, abortion
ddhertoo, sorry, the first line should read: if you (can't) punish a child for doing...
If this is true, it is the pinnacle of youthful irresponsibility and immaturity. If ANY young girl really sits back and watches the truth in the MISERY those teen mother's bring on themselves, she isn't going to want to duplicate it. Fame? I don't call what those young mother's have fame--they are not ready to have a child. They are not ready to be married. They are not even finished with high school--WHAT are they thinking??
That's just it, they aren't thinking.

Sadly, when a 15 year old sees a "teen mom" on the cover of people or one of those other rags, all they see is FAME. They don't see misery, pain or isolation. They don't see these twits suffering. You have to remember that kids these days are desensitized to pain and suffering. All they see is that the twit popped out a baby, and now she's "famous
I'd like to see federal level legislation barring children from being on reality shows ever, at all, from conception to the age of majority. All those poor teen mom kids, jonandkate kids, duggar kids...They're like little circus sideshow freaks.
Just shows what head cases women are including teenagers are. Having mistakes ( Babies ) in there teen years. These girls should be spaded. Then they can enjoy life with out having to be tied down with a left over.
Reply
Yes and the boys that have s e x with them should be spade as well. In case you don't remember it takes two.
No baby is a mistake. I have a daughter, I had her at 17, I am not saying that it is okay to have a kid as a teenager, but I am doing just fine. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't change a thing because having my kid made my life better. And it takes both a girl and a boy to make a kid so it is not right for you to just put all the blame on the girl.
Now in regards to this show, they pick immature girls to go on the show. Girls that cause more drama. I dislike shows like this because it is not real. They make things bigger than they really are so they can get more viewers. It's stupid.
Back in the old days, when a girl came home to tell her parents she was with child,, the girl was very afraid. Very fearful for her own life, thats the way it was back then...
Since then, morals have gone out the window.
We parents, always want to do better for our kids, than we had.
We are more understanding, too understanding.
This show is a slap in the face to most Americans. It condons teenaged pregnacy, the last thing we ever wanted for our teen daughters.
Make the show go away, by not watching it, or allowing our daughters to watch it either.

I'm 23 years old and I was scared for my life to tell my parents that I was with child. I can't believe that these young girls are doing all of this. I'm just thankful that I have understanding parents who are still willing to help me out
