Kathy Griffin's Fat Jokes Hurt Her Chance at Getting New Year's Job Back

By now, you know that comedienne Kathy Griffin put her foot in her big mouth again over the weekend, getting booed by the troops at VH1's 'Divas Salute the Troops' event for telling fat jokes about Bristol Palin. Now, after the ensuing fallout, I've learned that any hope she had of getting her old job back on CNN's New Year's Eve special has been seriously diminished.

An insider at the cable network tells me that executives had recently softened on Kathy after initially shunning her after her F-bomb-throwing gaffe on last year's special, co-hosted by Anderson Cooper.

"CNN executives ... were considering giving her another chance," my source reveals. "That was until her Bristol weight comment a few days ago that reminded everyone exactly why they had barred her in the first place."

Now, the "Most Trusted Name in News" is likely to sideline any chance of bringing her back. It seems Kathy picked a scab off CNN's wound, reminding them that not only did she drop an F-bomb on live TV, she also made not-so-family-friendly jokes about needing a "bump" of cocaine. And then, yes, she also asked Anderson if he pleasured himself while looking in the mirror. So there's that.

However, even worse than that sordid minute on TV was the fact that it didn't exactly help in the ratings department. CNN's special drew far fewer viewers than Dick Clark's 'New Year's Rockin' Eve.'

When I asked a CNN publicist about the matter in early January, they said, "No decisions have been made yet regarding next year's show."

Does anyone really think this Pig is funny? Anyone who would laugh at her lame jokes would laugh at Kittens in a Blender..

I think she's been funny in the past but she often is more raunchy than funny. The Bristol jokes were not just mean but unfunny as well. She shot herself in the foot with that one.

I totally agree. We all need to focus on saying positive things to others. This life is hard. It's easy to make people laugh without hurting others. I will not watch anything if she is appearing.

It's New Year's Eve. Let Kathy have her fun. It's up to the people if they want to watch it or not.

Perhaps it's just that she isn't funny. She's cruel, biased and bitter and has an agenda.

Her "agenda" is to try and attack anyone with conservative values. She despises the Palins, and her attempt to humiliate the younger Palin shows how far she will stoop. She was caught off-guard by the reaction of her military audience because she is soundly embraced by the New Yorker's and west coast liberalism. She was expecting the people to find her remarks funny, and I think it's great that she got to experience how the majority of conservative America feel about that sort of humor.

"That sort of humor": give me a break and grow up. "Conservative values" are a myth -- they have no values unless it benefits them.

She is very clever-tells the truth--and doesn't need that stupid job. She'll have planty of offers. She was 100% correct. I wish, however, she'd take off that wig she always wears. She and gay Anderson Cooper didn't go well, anyway. He's just too up tight.

CNN needs to get a grip..they have slugs like Nancy Grace I'm a victim ( plus she should be tried for contributing to the suicide of that young mother a year ago from her bullying) and Jane Velez-Michell I'm an ex alcoholic spewing their hatred...no wonder CNN is in such dire straits to stay on the air as their ratings are so bad...Palin IS a fat chunky girl....Griffin just has the balls to say it like it is and not talk behind ones back....enuff said.
