Kathy Griffin's Fat Jokes Hurt Her Chance at Getting New Year's Job Back

By now, you know that comedienne Kathy Griffin put her foot in her big mouth again over the weekend, getting booed by the troops at VH1's 'Divas Salute the Troops' event for telling fat jokes about Bristol Palin. Now, after the ensuing fallout, I've learned that any hope she had of getting her old job back on CNN's New Year's Eve special has been seriously diminished.

An insider at the cable network tells me that executives had recently softened on Kathy after initially shunning her after her F-bomb-throwing gaffe on last year's special, co-hosted by Anderson Cooper.

"CNN executives ... were considering giving her another chance," my source reveals. "That was until her Bristol weight comment a few days ago that reminded everyone exactly why they had barred her in the first place."

Now, the "Most Trusted Name in News" is likely to sideline any chance of bringing her back. It seems Kathy picked a scab off CNN's wound, reminding them that not only did she drop an F-bomb on live TV, she also made not-so-family-friendly jokes about needing a "bump" of cocaine. And then, yes, she also asked Anderson if he pleasured himself while looking in the mirror. So there's that.

However, even worse than that sordid minute on TV was the fact that it didn't exactly help in the ratings department. CNN's special drew far fewer viewers than Dick Clark's 'New Year's Rockin' Eve.'

When I asked a CNN publicist about the matter in early January, they said, "No decisions have been made yet regarding next year's show."

People must remember that their statements and actions (even jokes) have consequences. And I don't believe KG was joking in this case; I believe she was being mean-spirited. Saying "just kidding" or "only joking" after the fact doesn't cancel-out what was said.

She is terrible. She isn't even funny. She insults people and they only thing funny about her is her own face. She use to be funny before she starting thinking she is more than she really appears. The whole thing with Levi Johston was rediculous and she looked like a fool but kudos for him he got his 15 minutes of fame. Drop her like a hot potatoe.

Wow, she really got you all mooing in a huff. She's hilarious, Bristol IS a big chunk and whether or not she gets to host the CNN New Year's special she'll always get work because she makes people laugh. Why aren't Oprah or Joy Bahar, two women with their own weight issues, speaking out in defense of Bristol Palin? Oh, that's right... it's OK to mock Conservatives. Ironic though, that what Bristol Palin did, which was have a baby out of wed-lock, isn't embraced more by these Hypocritial Liberals since their agenda supports irresponsible behavior. Has anyopne ever heard of the term "double standard"?

What double standard are you referring to ?? The fact that there were two unwed moms in the semi-finals of DWTS OR the fact that conservatives didn't berate the other young mother .......only Bristol got crucified. Double standard you say ???
ps Kathy Griffin role on Suddenly Susan was that of the irritant . She never outgrew the part.

So now its Kathys fault that Bristol was dancing with the whales? I think that is why they left her on the show so folks would tune in to see the blubber roll. She did brighten my day when she did the shimmy.

I've never found this clown to be funny. she ripped Palin cause of hate for Sarah, if it was just a joke, why has no one, including this clown ripped Kyle. he's not exactly thin, and he's a lot bigger than Bristol. now he's fat, she's stocky. let me add, I like Kyle and Bristol.
