Katy Perry to Take Russell Brand's Last Name

Katy Perry may have made a name for herself as a 'California Gurl,' but the star will be getting a new name soon: Mrs. Brand!

The 'Firework' singer, who married comedian Russell Brand on Oct. 23, tells PEOPLE she is in the process of adding his last name to her own.

Perry, a former Christian singer, who has called her often-raunchy husband a "great man of God," says that some people are already referring to her by her married name.

"If I'm at an event or something like that, and they want special attention, they go, 'Mrs. Brand!'" she says.

The couple, who celebrated their union with a traditional Hindu ceremony at a tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan, India, have expressed their admiration and love for each other in the press, although Perry admits it's not always easy.

In response to a comment by actress Helen Mirren, who jokingly expressed her jealousy over Perry's marriage, Perry told Ellen Degeneres, "She needs to step off my man ... Actually, I kind of don't mind that someone else takes some of the responsibility, because it's a lot of work [being married to Brand]. ... There's never a dull moment."

Just because they had their wedding in India doesn't mean it was a "traditional Hindu wedding." Actually, it wasn't as a Christian priest married them. Way to be culturally minimizing, Popeater. Although I expected much else?

I know we are taught not to judge, but her calling him " a great man of God" is difficult to swallow.

He certainly does not act like a Christian,with his filthy mouth and obscene behavior. Whenever I see him on TV I change the channel.

I'm not into the "Hollywood couple" thing, but Russell and Katy are a great match in my opinion. Both are very intelligent, talented and attractive (did I really just write that Katy is "attractive?? ...she's hot beyond belief, but since I'm old enough to be her father, i'll leave it at "attractive")

Anyway, for those who think Brand is odd, please keep in mind that his usual onstage persona is an act. If you've ever seen him drop that persona, you'll discover that he's incredibly smart, and wise beyond his years. Same thing with Katy. Good luck to both of them.
