In a Logitech commercial circulating for about a week, Kevin Bacon plays his own biggest fan in a fantastic bit of meta-advertising. Now Entertainment Weekly has the scoop on the ad, speaking to the actor about the character he conjured up and what it was like entering a set devoted to Bacon worship.
"[Logitech] sent me like a breakdown for [the ad]. I read it and said, you know, it could be kind of cool, but I have to make sure that we're all in sync about it," Bacon says of the ad's inception.
They were indeed in sync, taking the Bacon-megafan character concept to a fully-realized, perfectly-executed state. See the ad and hear more about the filming after the jump.
"I didn't know how far they wanted to go with the look and the character. If it was just me kind of walking around, people would think it was weird," Bacon recalls. "So I started to talk with the director, this guy Ringan Ledwidge. And he was like yeah, we should really go far [with the character]. It was sort of like any other character that you play. You have to figure out the back story and you gotta figure out who he is and what makes him tick, what's his life like."
The filming set -- a suburban home riddled with Kevin Bacon fan memorabilia -- blew the 52-year-old actor's mind, he says. "It was a really fun day [of shooting]. The art director put that stuff together ... I walked into this house and I was like, 'Oh my god, you gotta be kidding me.' I loved it."
We may not have seen the last of Bacon's self-played biggest fan, Ivan. "What's on the air is really just a tiny taste of what we shot. There's a lot more there. I would hope [it will be released], I don't know. It's up to Logitech."
Jon Hamm, star of the hit series "Mad Men", is spotted filming scenes for the upcoming season. Jon was all smiles while filming in a red, vintage Imperial convertible.
Kevin Macon needs to do more movies in the realm of Footloose. Not the teenybopper movie...but the kind where he's sort of the FUN outlaw of the crowd...the good bad boy...the dramatic Bacon... BLEH...too much drama in day to day life....
