Publicist Ronni Chasen Killed in Robbery Attempt, Police Reveal

The murder case that shocked Hollywood is almost closed. Publicist Ronni Chasen was shot and killed last month while driving home from a Hollywood premiere--and after several weeks of investigating, Beverly Hills police say Chasen was killed after a robbery went bad. TMZ reports that a man who shot himself last week when police approached is indeed the man who killed Chasen.

Police say Harold Smith used the same gun to kill himself that he used to shoot Chasen in November. They believe he approached Chasen while on a bicycle in an attempt to rob her. Contrary to previous theories, they believe there is no link to road rage.

"We don't believe it was a professional hit," police Chief David Snowden told reporters, according to PEOPLE.

A big break in the case came from a tip through 'American's Most Wanted,' TMZ reports. The tipster, who wishes to remain anonymous, is set to collect $125,000 in reward money.

Chasen was murdered on November 16 in Beverly Hills. She was shot five times in the chest while driving her Mercedes-Benz and crashed into a pole. She was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Two weeks after her death, it was revealed that the publicist was worth over six million dollars.

How bazar!!! When they found the man that shot himself...police said that the gun he used to kill himself DID NOT match the gun that killed Ms. Chasen. NOW it does????

Diane, I was thinking the exact same thing....they said the gun didn't match..even did bolistics on bullets...said this guy may have nothing at all to do with it period.....Something isn't adding up.....is there a coverup here?

What a bunch of crap! The Beverly Hills Police Gang can't track a fox into it's own hole. However, they do need for the well heeled residents to feel better. Some clown on a bicycle looking for a little cash does not run five rounds through a movie industry insider, or anybody else for that matter, intent to kill her.

Maybe the morons at BHPD need to call Eddie Murphy for a little help. If BHPD closes the case now it will be a modern day travesty.

Right, they are lying and they need to shut the story down, for whatever reason. Anyone heard the theory that it was a gang initiation killing? Yes, maybe farfetched, but would a bicyclist robber shoot square in the chest five times? Sounds like death was the motive, not robbery. And maybe they don't want to raise alarm, so they'll just quash it as a robbery. Could happen, I guess.
