Chris Rock Helps Pregnant Woman in Labor at Mall

Laughter is the best medicine, and luckily, there was a world-renowned comedian on hand recently at a New Jersey mall to help one surprised holiday shopper in her time of need.
Chris Rock was inside the Neiman Marcus department store at the Garden State Plaza, according to
Us, just as a very pregnant woman approaching an escalator a few feet away from him suddenly went into labor when her water broke.
Saving the day until medical help arrived, Rock relied on his wits (or his famous wit, in this case) to calm the mother-to-be and the concerned bystanders.
"He was making the crowd, and the woman in labor, laugh," the witness said of the 45-year-old comic and father of two. "She recognized who he was immediately, and he stayed there until the paramedics took her away."
Rock -- who is raising daughters Lola, 8, and Zahra, 6, with wife Malaak Compton-Rock -- was spotted earlier this month with Jerry Seinfeld at a Children's Defense Fund benefit in New York City.
But don't think he's all doting daddy, all the time. Ever the risk-taker, Rock is slated to make his
Broadway debut in 'Motherf**ker with the Hat,' co-starring Bobby Cannavale and Annabella Sciorra. The play will open in April 2011.

Hey GT -- No pregnant woman wants to be in a mall and have her water break. It scary. I'm glad that Chris Rock showed that there is nothing wrong with getting involved. He helped to calm her down until help could arrive. God bless him. Would you have done the same?
Something tells me you wouldn't help a pregnant women in a mall. Good job in helping Chris you Rock.
Uhhh last time I checked it was an urgent situation. I am a nurse and I would know.
I think you're wrong. I had to go to the hospital when my water broke because, as my doctor said, there's no amniotic fluid to cushion or protect the baby. You can't just walk around for a couple of days after your water breaks.
Wow, GT, you sound like a very bland and unhappy person and/ or a fan of Sarah Palin who after her water broke with her last child, boarded a plane in Texas for an over 1/2 day flight to Alaska. May the spirit of kindness enter your heart, thoughts, and actions. Good luck to the mother, child, Chris and all.
Oh, please! A long winded response to say nothing
THIS is the type of news I want to hear! Not "Did Justin Bieber Get a Haircut?" or "Miley Cyrus Smokes Bong".
Anyway, this was a very nice story! Good for you, Chris!

The pregnant woman was my sister-in-law. Thanks to Chris, we have a beautiful new baby, Nico James. What a great CHRIStmas Gift. Thanks from all of us.

Now that's what I call an impromptu "mini" concert. Must have been nice to be a part of the crowd that day. Maybe she'll name her baby after Chris and he/she will have a story to tell for the rest of his/her life.

That's nothing. Chris Rock did my C-section and then cooked our entire Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks again, Chris!

I think it was very nice of him and he sure seems like a very decent fellow -- but generally, a woman's water breaking is NOT an emergency requiring an ambulance. Scary that a nurse thinks that it is an urgent situation with no other information than the fact of rupture.

Since it was unknown at the time what caused the woman's water to break, it did warrant a quick trip to the hospital until the doctor could make sure that the mother and the baby were both fine. Extra caution is always best when dealing with pregnancy, since you are dealing with two (and sometimes more) lives.
Great holiday story. It's great to read a feel good story early in the morning. Merry Christmas to the mother, and God bless Chris Rock.

Apparently simple acts of human decency and kindness are rare among the h0llywood elite. Why else would this be newsworthy?
