Loved ones, including disgraced politician and estranged husband John Edwards, gathered in North Carolina today to say good-bye to Elizabeth Edwards, 61, who lost her battle with breast cancer earlier this week.

In the days leading up to what People.com calls "an emotional service" at a Methodist church in Raleigh, more than a hundred former Edwards campaign staffers reportedly flocked to N.C. to assist in the funeral arrangements. Insiders were said to be stunned that the highly-organized Elizabeth had made no plans for her funeral: "There was nothing," a friend said about the chaotic effort to make arrangements after she passed. "I think she was just too focused on living, so why does she want to plan her funeral? I think it's also the ultimate ego-less act and classic Elizabeth. She just didn't care about the ceremonial."

D.C.-area anti-discrimination attorney Cate Edwards, 28, the recently engaged daughter of John and Elizabeth, delivered a heartfelt eulogy for her mother. Others who gave eulogies included longtime friends Hargrave McElroy and Glenn Bergenfield. Former Senator John Edwards, 57, attended the funeral but did not speak publicly.
