Elizabeth Edwards, Eulogized by Cate, Is Laid to Rest

Loved ones, including disgraced politician and estranged husband John Edwards, gathered in North Carolina today to say good-bye to
Elizabeth Edwards, 61, who lost her battle with breast cancer earlier this week.
In the days leading up to what
People.com calls "an emotional service" at a Methodist church in Raleigh, more than a hundred former Edwards campaign staffers reportedly flocked to N.C. to assist in the funeral arrangements. Insiders were said to be stunned that the highly-organized Elizabeth had made no plans for her funeral: "There was nothing," a friend said about the chaotic effort to make arrangements after she passed. "I think she was just too focused on living, so why does she want to plan her funeral? I think it's also the ultimate ego-less act and classic Elizabeth. She just didn't care about the ceremonial."
D.C.-area anti-discrimination attorney Cate Edwards, 28, the
recently engaged daughter of John and Elizabeth, delivered a heartfelt eulogy for her mother. Others who gave eulogies included longtime friends Hargrave McElroy and Glenn Bergenfield. Former Senator John Edwards, 57, attended the funeral but did not speak publicly.
'Amazing Grace' was among the hymns sung at the traditional service, and the group of pallbearers included Cate's new fiance Trevor Upsham, as well as four of the childhood pals who were close to the late Wade Edwards, John and Elizabeth's firstborn son, killed in a 1996 car accident.
Elizabeth's service reportedly took place in the same church that hosted her 16-year-old son's funeral. In the wake of Elizabeth's passing, the family asked that donations be made to the
Wade Edwards Foundation.
John Edwards has been separated from his wife since January, after the strain of
scandal -- stemming from John's affair with videographer Rielle Hunter -- became too much for the 32-year marriage to weather. The couple's youngest children, Emma Claire, 12, and Jack, 10, are now in the full-time care of their father.
"He will never forgive himself for what he did to her, and she will remain in his heart for the rest of his life," a source recently told
PopEater's
Rob Shuter. "We were all praying for a miracle. But now we realize Elizabeth was our miracle. Just having her in all our lives was the best gift of all. She will never be forgotten."

My thought and prayers go out to the childrens and the family of
Elizabeth Edwards. May you rest in peace. You are with your beloved son now. Such a remarkable mother Cate, Jack and Emma.
God Bless.
I hope one day there is a cure for all cancers. This lady was very special, and to let her ex husband be near her at that time was truly remarkable. I guess she knew that it was time for forgiveness, and for her children to start the process of forgiving their Dad. God Bless her family.

Wow, john edwards is the lowest of the low. How could anyone do what he did to his wife...and in public. How can he face his children much less the world, and although I believe in forgiveness, he made a conscious choice here. John edwards has shown his true color. I am sure he is sorry, but forgiveness just does seem reasonable in his case.

it is always easy to criticize someone when you do not knw all the fact
ELIZABETHS DEATH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JOHN EDWARDS SO WHY IN THE HECK DOES EVERYONE JUST GOTTA KEEP GOING THERE?! THERE IS A TIME AND A PLACE FOR BASHING JOHN EDWARDS AND THIS IS NOT THE TIME NOR THE PLACE TO DO IT. HAVE SOME RESPECT YOU LOSERS AND STOP BASHING AND TALKING ABOUT JOHN EDWARDS AND WHAT HE DID IN THEIR MARRIAGE. THAT IS ANOTHER TOPIC NOT TO BE DISCUSSED HERE.THIS IS ABOUT ELIZABETH SO LET IT GO AND HAVE RESPECT FOR HER AT LEAST! ALL I CAN SAY IS REST IN HEAVENLY PEACE NOW ELIZABETH.
So now the youngest 2 are with Stupid and his "well, whatever you want to call her"...great role models! Hopefully, the kids can keep the memory of their Mother alive in their hearts! God Bless the kids!

You know, when it's quiet regarding someone i'm interested in and after the last interview or article was put out I never seem to have the "presence of mind" to wonder how things are doing with that person. So it was with Elizabeth. I knew she was under treatment for that cancer but, when the news came out that she lost that battle, I was stunned! I also knew she didn't go down without a fight. God love and take care of them - all of them. There are little ones there and we can't "Bad mouth" their daddy.
