Michael Lohan to Billy Ray: Divorce Messes Kids Up, Just Ask Me

After video of teen sensation Miley Cyrus smoking salvia from a bong surfaced last week, her father, Billy Ray, took to Twitter, saying, "I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now." Now, Michael Lohan, the father of another teen star who went down the wrong path, is warning Billy Ray that he must take control of the situation as well as make sure his divorce from Miley's mom, Tish, stays civil.

"Divorce does mess up kids," Lindsay's dad told me after he saw the Miley video. "But divorce can work if both parents try to get along and don't use their children as pawns. Ask any professional about that, especially [Michael's ex] Dina! She knows all about using kids as pawns and dragging them into her dirt."

Just a few days ago, Dina told TMZ that after seeing pictures of Michael getting Botox and partying in LA she thinks he needs to stop spending money on himself and start spending it on his children. She even said she filed paperwork with the Child Support Collection Unit to get her ex to pay child support.

"I promised Lindsay that I wouldn't talk about our personal life or Dina, so I won't" -- uh oh, see second paragraph -- "But what I will do, is set the record straight on her claims," Michael tells me.

"For any parent to lie to the press about things like this only shows how bitter and self-absorbed that person really is! This is not about lies, money or jealousy. It's about our children. I feel sorry for Dina. I really want to get along. I only pray that after all Lindsay's hard work, this nonsense will stop so that she has a real chance! And while I am very proud and hopeful of Lindsay, quite honestly, I worry for her, if this behavior doesn't stop. Good brings good and bad brings bad!"

Someone should set Michael straight once and for all: DIVORCE DOESN'T SCREW UP THE KIDS, BAD PARENTS SCREW UP THE KIDS.

And as bad parents go, Michael is among the worst. Why would anyone take parenting advice from this idiot?

Meeker said it best, bad parents mess up kids. Also, I think Miley has been a bad seed for a long time and it isn't just the divorce causing her to act the way she seems to have always acted. Both dads missed the train on raising mature young adults.

Being an A-Hole messes kids up. Divorce isnt exactly easy on the family involved, but plenty of people get divorced and still have good kids.

Miley chose to do that, her parents didn't tell her to.In my opinion the divorce has nothing to do with that. it can make kids miserable and stressed out, but it doesn't make kids do that. She chose to! but Billy Ray has to get controll of this before something goes really wrong.

Am I the only one who finds it absolutely insane that this guy and his ex-wife are so overly involved in the life of their adult daughter (isn't Lindsay at least 24)? Meanwhile, they have a 16 year old daughter whom they have seemingly let drop out of school.

Miley is 18 years old and is hardly the first college age kid to experiment with pot, regardless of her parent's influence. Lohan needs to shut his mouth and ask himself why at 50 whatever he has no career to support himself and still must leech off his troubled adult daughter.

eh. not buying it. This isn't an isolated event. Miley was acing out in other ways wayyyy before hitting the bong. If you're doing this a day after turning legal why wouldn't she do more extreme drugs as time goes on? according to her this isn't a big deal. Hilary Duff's parents got divorced when she was 18 but she didn't act out after. And this divorce isn't even acromonious.

Divorce is their own personal matter and we need not bother about it but still children need not be dragged into the issue or they need not suffer because of this .
