Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds Confirm Split

Scarlett Johansson, one of Hollywood's most beautiful and zealously private couples, have decided after "long and careful consideration" to end their two-year marriage, they announced on Tuesday.
After
TMZ released a report saying they had separated, the couple quickly
issued a joint statement confirming the news and asking for privacy.
"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."
The news has stunned friends.
"No one had any idea this was coming," a friend of Johansson's tells PopEater. "They kept their private life so secret that I doubt we will ever really know what went wrong."
Johansson, 26, began dating Reynolds, 34, in 2007. They tied the knot a year later in an intimate ceremony at a Canadian retreat. They have split time between an apartment in Manhattan and in August, it was reported they purchased a $2.8 million home in Los Angeles.
The incredibly good-looking pair (he was just named
PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive; she,
GQ's Babe of the Year) have closely guarded their privacy since they began dating and rarely speak of each other in interviews. Photographs of them together are few and far between.
That said, the 'Iron Man 2' beauty opened up slightly about married life in an InStyle interview earlier this year.
"You're married and suddenly you have your own family," she said. "There's a nice comfort in that. That part of your life is certain, in a way. You've got your home in that other person."
Hollywood has seen a spate of celebrity breakups as of late. In the past two months alone, Eva Longoria, Elizabeth Hurley, Michael C. Hall, Christina Aguilera and Courteney Cox have all split from their significant others.

This news does not surprise me. They seemed to make an odd couple, I expected someone much more, well, attractive for Ryan, than Scarlett.

Ryan is sexier than most, Lynn. Not all, but most in Hollywood. Scarlett...airbrushed sexy and in very good lighting, maybe.

I think you have that a little backwards Victory, Ryan's not even close to being the "sexiest man" & Scarlett just spews sexiness, even without alot of makeup. I could see that way back when she was just a young little thing in the Horse Whisperer that she was going to grow up to be a major hottie. She will always be sexier, more talented, & have a more successful career in films than Ryan.
Both work out at my gym and both are very attractive. However, Ryan looks exactly like he does on film whereas Scarlett definitely depends on makeup. Ryan is insanely good looking. I will say that they acted like gal pals rather than husband and wife. :)

while physically they would make an attractive couple... i must say, Jennifer is so BORING.... there doesnt seem to be any substance about her and its not like she is GREAT actress or anything.
Scarlett can do soooooo much better. She is pretty and a good actress. Ryan is mediocre attractive and can not act. His movies are terrible.

Must be the day to annnounce breakups, Michael C.Hall and Jennifer Carpenter and now Ryan Reynolds and Scarlet. I was more surprised by Michael and Jennifer breaking up than Ryan and Scarlet. Scarlett isn't one of my favorite actresses and I do not think she is attractive. But that has nothing to do with either marriage which in both cases only lasted 2 yrs. Do these people give up to easily or is it that they marry to hastily?

What I want to know, is why do "these" people get married in the first place....surely not expecting to live the rest of their lives together...PLEASE!!!! Looks or whatever has nothing to do with it...other posts!!! I thought I was shallow!
