Aretha Franklin Home After 'Highly Successful' Surgery

After a "highly successful" surgery on December 2 for an undisclosed ailment, Aretha Frankling is back home and resting comfortably, according to PEOPLE. It was reported the Queen of Soul is fighting pancreatic cancer though her rep hasn't confirmed it.

Franklin was released from a hospital in Detroit earlier this week according to a statement from the singer and her rep.

"I've been at home for almost three days now," Franklin, 68, said in the statement. "My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis."

"I'm hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before Jan. 2, as well as a performance of 'Dreamgirls' at the FOX before it closes," she added.

The singer's rep concluded the statement with a peek into Franklin's holiday plans. "The Queen of Soul is in great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family."

News of Franklin's December 2 surgery came about a month after she announced she was canceling all concert dates and personal appearances through May on the order of her doctors. That announcement came after Franklin's brief visit to a Detroit hospital--no details were given about her condition at the time.
