Former Child Star Melissa Gilbert Thinks Miley Cyrus Wanted to Get Caught

Melissa Gilbert may have grown up in a time without camera phones and the 24-hour news cycle, but she's in the camp that believes Miley Cyrus knew exactly what she was doing when she allowed a friend to videotape her smoking from a bong recently.

"These days, everyone with a cellphone is a paparazzo," Gilbert told AOL News. "How high do you have to be to let a friend film you? I think she wanted to get caught."

The former star of 'Little House on the Prairie' and spokeswoman for The Partnership at DrugFree.org thinks Cyrus is being too reckless after smoking salvia ... or whatever it was that got her so loopy that night.

"That's bulls***!" Gilbert said. "I think it was marijuana."

The 46-year-old actress, who played Laura Ingalls Wilder on the famed 1970s television show, doesn't think Cyrus is the ultimate problem child, but still believes kids need to look at this incident as a valuable lesson about drug abuse.

"Hopefully, these kids in the public eye like Cyrus and Heath Ledger are cautionary tales," Gilbert said.

It's Melissa that's trying to get some press. It sucks that all these has-beens always have something to say about Miley as if they are some kind of expert. They just know that ragging on someone as famous as Miley will get them an extra 15 minutes of fame.

I think she was a total fool for doing what she did. However the "friend" that taped her knew eXactly what she was doing, she went out of her way to exploit Miley. Did the "friend" tape anyone else there? No. Only Miley. It's axploitation, but at the same time wouldn't have happened if Miley wasn't acting like a fool doing what she did. Did her reputation take a hit? Not with the younger crowd! I'm disappointed in her is all I can say. Lets see what she does over the next year.......

She is a kid. She is experimenting like any other kid her age. Granted, she shouldn't have let someone video tape it because she is supposed to be a good example to younger kids. Behind closed doors, she should be able to experiment and do what she wants. It is a part of growing up. I'm not condoning drugs, but if someone is curious about them, and if they want to try them, it is their own damn business.

When daddy could no longer control her he turned her over to Mama, who directs her raunchy film. Now they have dumped Billy Ray, after he gave up his career to persue Miley's who seems to have turned into a person with no morals. Her next step will probably be porn movies and it will be over for her. As far as her being a role model, I am a teacher and I don't know one girl who likes Miley Cyrus. They make fun of her gaudy attire, her gruff voice and the fact that she talks so fast you can't understand a word she says, (that is probably because of the dope)and her disgusting behaviour. Her name is dwindling from the media so she's obviously decided to live the life of a Lindsey Lohan to keep her name out there.

I think she wants to know if her parents are really parents or just hangers on. Kids need boundaries and will keep pushing to find them until the parents step up.

She's not going to be a cop or a surgeon who's going to get canned, she's Miley Cyrus. People are going to follow her to the ends of the Earth. Publicity is opinion and unless she faces real judgment of or known negativity it won't matter to her or anybody really. She drank, got tats, smoked, that's what the authorities tell you not to do and it just gives her redemption in her A-list.

Yeah, I'll love beautiful Miley forever but even I know some of her actions lost her a lot of fans. So you are wrong that she is not paying a price. But bottom line is she has not been caught doing anything illegal. And Miley has never hurt anybody and gives back through many charities. Miley has a kind heart and is a good role model where it counts.

She'll self destruct like so many child stars do. Her family is not stable and probably wasn't for a long time even though it was just recently that her parents separated. I do hope she will see the light before she goes too far, but it's not likely and, yes, it's publicity even if it is negative. Even Tiger Woods who was pushed into golf/fame very young fell a long way and, who knows, if he will ever return to what he was.
