'Taxi' star Marilu Henner was featured on Sunday's '60 Minutes' for a reason entirely separate from her celebrity status: The actress, 58, has an ultra-rare ability called "superior autobiographical memory," a status scientists have only designated to a minuscule handful of people around the world. In short, Henner can remember almost every day of her life vividly and accurately. "A day 10 years ago is as clear to them as yesterday is to you or me," a voiceover explains.
The pitch to CBS reporter Lesley Stahl was to center around super-memory violinist Louise Owen, but Stahl says: "When I first heard about this research, what surprised me was not that this condition existed, but that it was considered so rare. That's because it sounded like a description of a friend of mine."
The friend is Marilu Henner. "I can rattle off almost every time I've seen you," Henner tells Stahl in conversation. The actress goes on to run through her shoe-closet and super-specifically cite the first time she wore many pairs. It sounds hokey, but rigorous tests and thorough reporting document this remarkable ability Henner and Owen possess. See the segment after the jump.

My memory is not as good as theirs but I can remember kids names first and last all the way back to first grade! Where most people I talk to don't even remember their teachers name in first grade. And I'm left handed also...

I saw the 60 minutes segment and found Ms. Henner to be brash and very full of herself. What has she done since Taxi???

At the present time I am involved in two study groups at The University of Southern California. Both are studies of the aging brain and are pointed towards finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease. My memory for detail is extremely good. My friend Donald Davidson, who also has an excellent memory for details, claims his has been identified as specific retention, easy access and I agree that what I have for memory power is much the same.
If I hear a simple clue about something in the past...KaBoom...it's all there in front of me.

I can remember conversations I had, the specific words and where they were held and who I was talking to, from around four-years-old and up to now. I can remember specific scenes with people and what we were wearing and the time of year from decades ago. I can't remember what I had for dinner last night. I can't remember if I took my vitamins this morning. I'm pretty sure I fed the cat a few hours ago.

Don't we call this condition a form of Autism??

So interesting. I am encouraged by this and wonder what the impact will be on Alzheimer's research.

I am 53 years old and I can remember alot of moments when I was only around 2 years old. I can tell you exactly what my bed room looked like, what my crib looked like and the designs that were on it, my dresser, the floor, everything. I can even remember standing in my crib!
I can remember what my favorite toys were at ages 4 and 5. In fact, just a few years ago, I bought my favorite doll I played with as a child. I remember MANY moments from my childhood like a photograph.
There are many, many things I remember from childhood.
Many things from school like, what dress I had on in 4th grade and 6th grade when I got pictures taken. I can't remember 5th grade pictures.
I too am very meticulous and organized. When things are in order, I feel lessed stressed.
Even when I leave the house to run errands, I figure out the stores or what ever in order, so that I am not running around in circles wasting gas! Especially at these prices!
Also, I am very conservative and never spend money on things I don't actually need. When I do, it bothers me and that causes stress!
I think my long-term memory is better than my short-term. But, eventially, the short turns into the long and then I'll remember just certain things.

Henner is a publicity hog. Always has been. From that tell all "I did everyone I ever worked with" book to this preposterous claim is nothing more than another pathetic attempt to keep her past it butt in the limelight. She's been over for decades and doesn't know it.

Actually everyone has the ability to have super memory like this lady. It has to do with your DNA to a certain extent but also to what extent you were properly "nourished" in the womb and after birth during the 1st year. If you received superior nutrition in the womb and constant, uninterrupted attention and love during your 1st year (without any separation between child and mother AND DAD) your brain will develope to its maximum memory capability. What happened to you when you were in the womb and during that 1st year. Were you smothered with bad food and lack of loving and affection coninuously? msmith6791

why is it I can remember when I was 5yrs old.
Why is it I experienced the presence of my grandfather the day he died.
Why don't I remember what I had for dinner last night.
Better still I remember the day I was born...
But still have difficulty remembering names of people that I just
meet.
Now if I could only hit the Lottery..I just have too remember to play it.

I have been told I have a good memory for years. I can remember phone numbers of friends from childhood, model numbers etc. But, my 26 year old son remembers way back to 2 and 3 years old and can't believe I don't remember. He as suffered from OCD since the age of 2 and...he is left handed. It really hit home that all three men were left handed and had suffered from OCD tendencies.

I had this, however since most of the memories are scares, I smoke pot to try and drown them out. Not always a facinating gift. To some, its a living horror movie. Everyday.

So, I guess this means I'm really OCD and left-handed? Who knew? LOL You guys are a riot...
