Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson Are Engaged

After months of engagement rumors, Bret Michaels finally asked his on-off girlfriend of 16 years, Kristi Gibson, to marry him on Monday night's finale of his VH1 reality show, 'Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It.'

The Poison rocker got down on his knee and told Gibson, 39, "I love you, and you've been unbelievably a big part of my life, and we have two beautiful girls together. ... I know we love and respect each other, and I hope that we can find that inner love that we have forever. And I want you to be my wife."

Gibson said she never thought this day would come.

Back in July, sources told Star Magazine that Michaels proposed after the Fourth of July holiday weekend while the pair were at his ranch near Scottsdale, Arizona. But Michaels denied the reports.

Although Gibson has been spotted with serious bling on her finger, Michaels called it "a promise ring ... a friendship ring, with benefits. That's what we call it," Michaels said during a CBS Early Show interview in July. "We're a work in progress."

"Bret felt like now was the time because Kristi has been through so much with Bret and has been by his side every step of the way," a friend of the couple told Star. The friend said Michaels has changed since his brain hemorrhage earlier this year.

The couple has two daughters together: Raine Elizabeth, 10, and Jorja Bleu, 5.

I am so happy for Bret and Kristi!! I say it's about time. LOL I have followed Bret since I saw him on The Apprentice. I just have so much respect for him and what he believes in. I admire his ability to speak the truth in love. I also respect Kristi since watching the show. Her patience, parenting skills and maturity is admired.

I truly wish them a "WONDERFUL LIFE" as they know it.

He wasn't hiding behind closed doors so I'm sure she knew all about it. I'd have to bet that she was having her share of fun too while enjoying all the benefits of him paying for everything. I'm just saying....her eyes were wide open. I'm happy they worked everything out and are getting married.
