Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson Are Engaged

After months of engagement rumors, Bret Michaels finally asked his on-off girlfriend of 16 years, Kristi Gibson, to marry him on Monday night's finale of his VH1 reality show, 'Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It.'

The Poison rocker got down on his knee and told Gibson, 39, "I love you, and you've been unbelievably a big part of my life, and we have two beautiful girls together. ... I know we love and respect each other, and I hope that we can find that inner love that we have forever. And I want you to be my wife."

Gibson said she never thought this day would come.

Back in July, sources told Star Magazine that Michaels proposed after the Fourth of July holiday weekend while the pair were at his ranch near Scottsdale, Arizona. But Michaels denied the reports.

Although Gibson has been spotted with serious bling on her finger, Michaels called it "a promise ring ... a friendship ring, with benefits. That's what we call it," Michaels said during a CBS Early Show interview in July. "We're a work in progress."

"Bret felt like now was the time because Kristi has been through so much with Bret and has been by his side every step of the way," a friend of the couple told Star. The friend said Michaels has changed since his brain hemorrhage earlier this year.

The couple has two daughters together: Raine Elizabeth, 10, and Jorja Bleu, 5.

I went to school with a girl who moved in with her high school boyfriend right after graduation. That was 30 years ago - they never married but they're still together and the parents of a daughter who is 19 and in college. It's not up to the rest of us to decide when somebody should or shouldn't - that decision was Brett's and Kristi's alone. And everybody here and everywhere else should know that giving the ring and saying "I do" is no guarantee that he or she will. Whatever the situation was between Brett and Kristi over the years, he's been a father to his daughters which is more than a lot of married men do with their kids. I saw Brett on "Celebrity Apprentice" and I'm thrilled for all of thsm.

Ok, I really like Brett...don't get me wrong. But, I was watching Full Throttle Saloon the other day and after he performed there this year he was making out with one of the girls who works there named Bree. I know it was this year because they were talking about his health problems and his aneurysm. How serious can he be about Kristi?? I just can't stand cheaters.
