Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow loves acting, but it has to be a pretty compelling part to take her away from her favorite role: mom to daughter Apple and son Moses. Playing troubled alcoholic country superstar Kelly Canter in 'Country Strong' fit the bill, as does her role in 'Contagion,' as an infected working mom in the new Steven Soderbergh film shooting now.
When considering movie roles, "you want to put yourself in the hands of someone who's really good or where you might learn something that you never thought you'd learn because my time out of my house and away from my kids is no joke," a dead-serious Paltrow told PopEater while doing press in Los Angeles for 'Country Strong.'
"I am not putting them to bed right now, I'm here, and that's really hard on me. But at the same time, it's what I do, so when I do my work, I want to be inspired. I want to bring home something they'll be proud of and they'll look back and go, 'Wow, Mom was alright'."
When she's home in London with her children and her husband, Coldplay's Chris Martin, she is extremely hands on, she stresses. "I'm at everything and I pick them up everyday, take them [to school] every day, do everything for them, homework, bath ...When I'm home, I'm extremely 100% present."
Though Paltrow has often talked about her love of living in Europe, it sounds like she may be missing the green, green grass of home ... just a little bit at least.
"My favorite thing about [living in London] is it's very green. We're in the middle of the city, but we have grass and trees and a little swing set [and] I can take Apple to the Royal Ballet to see 'The Nutcracker.' There's a quality of life in terms of a big city there that's pretty great, but, you know, I miss home. It's hard. I love it there, but the older I get the more I miss, specifically, California."
If it's so hard on her not to be with her kids then STAY HOME! They are only little ONCE and it goes by fast. These people that put their careers ahead of their kids are disgusting. I'm sure she has more than enough money to never have to work again and yet there she is, away from her kids!
Gwyneth Paltrow is such a phony. She's all out for her "career". Now she's a Country singer? Give me a break. She's only mediocre at all she does. Nepotism has taken her far enough. Stay home, Gwynnie. Your kids need you.
When all these Hollywood kids grow up and talk about their famous parents, I never hear them say how proud they are of their movies or roles...they resent the time they missed with their parents because "work" was more important. Meryl Streep, Joanne Woodward, Jessica Lange...these are all women that worked but were there for their kids 24/7. They drew up a schedule based on their kids lives. They would take a role when it suited their family schedule. Their kids turned out pretty good and have a healthy relationship with their moms. Ms. Paltrow needs to step back and enjoy the time her kids now...they will never be this age again and she will regret it. By the way, how is her new movie doing anyway?
Hey maybe they should make a movie about an actor or actress who accepts a movie role then whines about not being home to watch their kids grow up. When her kids grow up and watch her movies they can say, "hey that's my mother." When asked what it was like having her as a mother they can say: "I don't know she was never home."
I'm away from my kids alot because I HAVE to work two jobs. I hope Miss Paltrow never has to face the real World. Count your blessings and stop whining
wtf??????????????? give me and 100 other moms your money you have now , we will stay home with our kids and you can go make your kids proud and make movies and make a TON more money for mediocre work, =)
This. 100%. If I had the money top stay home without losing my house, I would. And since I do have to work, i make sure to have a job with no travel attached. Because I want to be with my son. Gwyneth needs a reality check.
Why all the haters?! Of course she misses her kids when she's away working - she's a mom! She's not whining - she's being honest. She's a very hands-on mom - was around her for a bit and really, she is there for them. Yes, she travels to work once or twice a year. That's life as a working mom. Why does everyone expect perfection from her anyway?! She's a human-being like the rest of us, imperfect, growing. Give the lady some breathing room already!
So true!!!! Why do people love hating her? Must be jealousy. But each person has pluses and minuses and no one is better than the other, so live well and live large and hug as many friends as you can today. It's Christmastime!!!!
WAH, WAH, WAH, WAH..........please mothers have been working nights, days and weekends and holidays without being near their kids..........if it REALLY bothered you use the millions you've earned in the past to stay home.................
She just seems so contrived and toolish{not a real word, but you know what I mean?] Several years ago, she came to a restaurant in which I was employed. I stood dumbfounded as she explained to her dinner guests that they shouldn't tip on the wine portion of the check.....she had quite an explanation as to why not. I got over the slight that night, but she seems to be quite dim overall. Not to mention, what has she done lately?
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
