Halle Berry has been busy dazzling photogs on the red carpet recently, hamming it up for a new Farrelly Brothers comedy, and enjoying a new romance with Olivier Martinez -- but she says that despite her glamorous adulthood, she's still healing from the trauma she witnessed in her childhood home. The Oscar winner, 44, opened up to CNN recently about what motivates her to work with an organization that supports women who escape violent homes.
Berry recalls being terrified that her violent dad, who physically abused her mom, would turn on her, adding, "I think I've spent my adult life dealing with the sense of low self-esteem that sort of implanted in me. Somehow I felt not worthy." As incredible as that sounds coming from a highly paid, highly photogenic movie star, she explains, "Before I'm 'Halle Berry,' I'm little Halle....a little girl growing in this environment that damaged me...I've spent my adult life trying to really heal from that."
Of her dedication to supporting others trying to escape domestic violence -- including frequent volunteering at Jenesse Center, a Los Angeles shelter, and helping to renovate apartments for women leaving abusive relationships -- she says, "I have a spot in my soul that understands the devastation that this causes a family." I think one of the qualifications to be an Actor is that you had to have a fu.... up childhood.
She's just joining the bandwagon of all the others

Hmmmm and I thought it was just me that sees Halle as a whiner...

What was her white mother doing with this black man if he is so abusive? Maybe once you go black, you don't go back.
So, Halle is mulatto but she tells the world that she is Bbblack.
Poor kid. She needs to keep her boobs inside her dress instead of having them fall out all the time for attention.

How someone as successful and beautiful as Halle, how she continues to think of herself as not being worthy, is beyond me. She's 44, not a young 20 yr. old, so let the past go and be happy. I know some people will think that's easy to say, but to do is difficult. Why?? You must control your mind to get rid of the negative thoughts of the past and look at the positive present and future. We spend too much time spilling our guts these days about the past. Get over it and go on!! It's water under the bridge never to be seen again!!

McKenzie Phillips had sex with her father when she was a minor. That is child abuse, physical abuse, and emotional abuse and most importantly illegal. Yet, no one brought up the subject of race in that story. It was a sad story, tragic family matter. Now, apparently Halle had some issues growing up, specifically physical violence within her family. So now, the issue of race became apart of the conversation. How and why, I don't understand. McKenzie Phillips was molested repeatly by her father, nothing from the race baiters, Why?

If Halle is mulatto or half/half, then what is Salma Hayek and Shakira and Apollo Ohno?

And the cycle continues... Halle abused all of us with “Catwoman”.

Halle a word of advice from a woman old enough to be your Mom. Nobody likes a winer; we've all had tough times and not alot of money to deal with most of them. I think it's time to put your big girl pants on and suck it up. It won't get better until YOU let it get better. Good Luck for your daughters' sake.

Hmmmmm Halle's Dad and Mom seperated when she was 4 years old. She said she had no contact with Dad after he left. I guess it is PC to be abused even if you have to lie about it. She very beautiful to bad her bed has more visitors than the statue of Libery.

I don't know if she's had therapy, but she needs to get some, she has a baby now and she has to be able to not transfer any of that stuff to her. Trauma like that is heavy and can affect your relationships; she seems to be bouncing from guy to guy and that's not good, especially with a baby around. She was also beat herself and lost hearing in an ear. For your baby's sake talk it out with a pro and get rid of some of that pain, girl!!

does a so-called "unfortunate childhood" give halle berry the right to steal a screenplay from a really poor, hard working black woman single mother?

must be getting close to the time to vote those awards for movies. haven't seen much of her lately so is this her way of getting noticed?
of course, its not just her its most of those warped hollywood types.
with her money she should have been able to get professional help to deal with her family problems...if in fact she has a problem with her family. i don't like it when these people throw their families under the bus in order to get publicity.

at least she's doing something... For once an actress doing something for PEOPLE, instead of cats and dogs, or furry critters...Children are helpless in these situations, captive audiences... Good for her, God bless her!

dont understand with all her money why she doesnt get some needed therapy.
i went with out things to get therapy for abuse in my childhood.abandonment and physical and emotional abuse.
and yeah my mom and dad beat each other up,and he would leave and she would take him back.
hallie, get therapy and learn to cope!
