Natalie Portman Engaged and Expecting With 'Black Swan' Partner

Natalie Portman has big news to share -- she's becoming a wife and a mother.

The 29-year-old 'Black Swan' star is expecting her first child with new fiance Benjamin Millepied, her rep confirms to PEOPLE. The baby is due in 2011.

The pair met on the set of 'Swan' where Millepied -- a principal dancer in the New York City Ballet -- choreographed the dances and played her partner on screen.

"We got along right away; she's very, very professional, not difficult - there's no attitude there," he told Vulture of first working with his now fiancee.

In the Darren Aronofsky psychological thriller, Portman plays a troubled ballerina on the rise in her ballet company. For the role, the actress has earned Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe nominations and is a front-runner for an Oscar nod.

knock Since when is it a shame to be pregnant??? The only shame is someone like you being so judgemental & unable to be happy for someone who is. This child is so fortunate to have a mom that is intelligent, beautiful & talented. No shame here.

The article said, "The baby is due in 2011." Considering that Ms. Portman had just announced her pregnancy (at the end of December), and human beings don't usually take 12 months to gestate, was that sentence really necessary, or are we, the readers, so stupid that we needed someone to tell us that so we wouldn't have to figure it out for ourselves?

12 months would be the norm for elephants. For people, it is usually about 37 weeks.

well, u are wrong. elephants are 3 years gestation and humans are 40 weeks gestation. 37 weeks is the higher cap for premature infants. so ummm learn your info before telling someone else they r wrong.

@Brat: ACTUALLY..before YOU (as opposed to "u") critique someone, the normal human gestation period is between 37 and 42 weeks, after 42 weeks it's typical to induce labor. As an aside, an Elephant's gestation period is 22 months, so a bit under 2 years. Not 3 years like YOU just claimed. May I suggest YOU follow your own advice? :P

Shows what you know. After 29 years of marriage, I'm still married to the father of my little "surprise". I know more than a few people who are still happily married after getting pregnant first -- and some are even of the *older* generation.

Harvard grad, multimillionaire, oscar nominated, likely to be win this year, vegan....

And you guys can't wish her well? If you don't think she's a productive member of society, I'd like to hear who you think is...

Just because a woman gets pregnant before marriage does not automatically make her a "tramp". I'm still with the only man I've ever slept with, 29 years later. Besides, it takes two, so why do the men never get any backlash - why is it always just the woman?
