Natalie Portman Engaged and Expecting With 'Black Swan' Partner

Natalie Portman has big news to share -- she's becoming a wife and a mother.

The 29-year-old 'Black Swan' star is expecting her first child with new fiance Benjamin Millepied, her rep confirms to PEOPLE. The baby is due in 2011.

The pair met on the set of 'Swan' where Millepied -- a principal dancer in the New York City Ballet -- choreographed the dances and played her partner on screen.

"We got along right away; she's very, very professional, not difficult - there's no attitude there," he told Vulture of first working with his now fiancee.

In the Darren Aronofsky psychological thriller, Portman plays a troubled ballerina on the rise in her ballet company. For the role, the actress has earned Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe nominations and is a front-runner for an Oscar nod.

I will say congrats to both Natalie and her fiance on the impending bundle of joy. Are children are blessings. However, having said that, I am so disheartened by today's thinking. Sure, sex outside of marriage has been going on since the beginning of time. The celebraties of today make it seem totally the norm and acceptable to have babies out of wedlock. It gives the ok for those of mere mortals to do it also. This is not being a role model. I am baffled that so many do not know how pregnancy occurs and then opps, a baby first and MAYBe a marriage. And then society wonders why there is a breakdown of family units, and marriages. It is really too bad. The Angelina's and Natalie's of the world are not role models.

I agree with you Louise, and I don't feel that you're being judgemental. There has been a breakdown in our world values. I think Natalie Portman is beautiful, talented and book smart. I don't judge her. I'm not perfect. However, it is disappointing to see couples putting the cart before the horse by having children before marriage!

This won't last. They are obviously getting married because he got her pregnant. It was probably an accident.

I, too, don't understand how if you're rich, you can't afford to use any of the various birth control methods that are 99% effective.

It would be just great if these starlets would start setting a better example for young women by getting married first and then getting pregnant. The cavalier treatment of these situations is hurting our society terribly. Young women who get pregnant out of wedlock and have children are far more likely than Ms. Portman to end up having terrible and poverty-stricken lives. The chances of Ms. Portman staying married for long is about 3%, But she'll muddle through.

The chances of ANYONE staying married is low regardless of whether you are pregnant before you got married or not.

But relationship lenth aside, Natalie is no dummy. Why no condom Nat? Why not on birth control?

Or did you thnk bc of your weight loss & training for this role, you couldnt get pregnant.

I too am surprised ..perhaps ou aren't as faithfully Jewish? I dont hear too often of Jewish ppl getting pregnant before marriage(this doesnt mean they arent having pre marital sex, they just make sure they use condoms or birth control!).

Some of you people need to lighten up with your morality accussations. After all she IS marrying the father of the child,which indicates they accept their moral obligations.

Secondly,it ain't like the baby is going to need welfare money to buy his or hers Pampers. I'm guessing the father is doing ok financially and I know the mother is a VERY bright young woman who is a very talented actress and already a multi-millionaire. In other words,she isn't the typical brainless Hollywood bimbo.

Regardless of any wrong or right decisions Natalie Portman has made, at least she and "the dancer" are trying to do the right thing by the child. It may or may not last. I won't judge. We could always look to the shining examples of how to bring children into the world and raise them...... BRAD and ANGELINA. Stellar examples to follow!... not.

Natalie is 29 years old, we don't know that this was a "surprise" or "accident"! Someone said that she didn't want to get married, doesn't mean she didn't want kids & people are allowed to change their minds last time I checked! We don't know Natalie personally, it is appalling all the personal judgements being made on her character. All we really know for sure about Natalie is that she is well educated, talented and beautiful! And as one person said, why can't we just be happy for them and wish them well?!!

I think they have the sequence incorrect. Shouldn't they get married first, then get pregnant? Hollywood has destroyed everything that is right and proper and has swung every weak-willed fan to think that what they think is appropriate. We have problems, Houston!

What the heck does marriage have to do with anyones happiness and children being brought up with morals & love?! My memories of childhood and religious married parents was of continuous fighting & argueing! Life became normal when they divorced! There are single parents not by choice but because of dead beat dads and that doesn't mean that the children don't get just as much love from their "single" parents!!!! Wake up people... it's just a peice of paper & has nothing to do with how you raise your children!!!
