Paula Abdul to Julie Chen: 'I Have a Brain'

In a new 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview airing tomorrow, former 'American Idol' judge Paula Abdul opens up to Julie Chen about certain misconceptions people have of her -- namely, that she's gone on the air inebriated and that she's unintelligent.

"I am intelligent," Abdul, 48, says with a smile. "Having a brain, that's a concept, yes, with Paula Abdul. I have a brain."

And what's her reaction to rumors about why she seems occasionally less than coherent? "I've never had a drinking problem. Even though I've been in this business for quite some time, I've never physically been drunk in my life. I've never been drunk in my life. I don't use recreational drugs. But I am goofy."

The TV star (having exited 'Idol' in 2009 after eight years on the judging panel, she was replaced with Ellen DeGeneres, who lasted just one season on the Fox hit show) is now promoting her new CBS reality series, 'Live to Dance.' Abdul's new endeavor premieres Jan. 4, featuring contestants of all ages with the fanciest footwork advancing toward a $500,000 prize.

The longtime choreographer says she first fell in love with dancing at age 4 when she watched Gene Kelly in the classic movie musical 'Singin' in the Rain.' Now that she's all grown up, Abdul tells Chen that she's quite happy with her love life, confirming there is "someone special" in her life but declining to spill any other details ("I have learned so many lessons, you have no idea!").
