Shania Twain Gets Married in Puerto Rico

Shania Twain's New Year's resolution? Marriage. The 'Come on Over' country star and Swiss Nestle executive Frederic Thiebaud tied the knot on day one of 2011 in sunny Puerto Rico, her spokesperson tells PEOPLE. "They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends," the rep says.

No other details for the nuptials have been released. The couple became engaged two months ago after dating for over a year.

Twain, 45, announced the engagement on her website in December, telling fans, "I'm in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship."

The love affair "blossomed" after Twain's ex-husband, music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, left her in 2008 for the singer's best friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud. Both Lange and Thiébaud denied committing adultery, but the heartache brought Twain and Frederic Thiebaud closer together.

The two came clean about their new romance in August 2009 after they were spotted vacationing together in Canada, New York City and Florida.

Twain, a five-time Grammy winner, has been on hiatus since the release of her 2002 album, 'Up!'. Before starting her long break, the Canada native struck pop-country gold over and over and over again with hits like 'You're Still the One,' 'From This Moment On' and 'Any Man of Mine,' along with a string of exclamation point-using gems like 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,' 'I'm Gonna Getcha Good!' and 'Up!'.

This is so heart warming, but why Puerto Rico ? My uncle Henry was a genius & owned the soft drink business in the USA during the 1930's. He moved the bottling plant to Peurto Rico because labor was ten cents on the dollar. Where he blew it is he married his Puerto Rican secretary. Let me say it nicely. She was "amazing".

After everything Shania's been through I'm truly happy for her IF this guy is really the one. I say this because this is a very strange story...Shania married her ex BFF hubby..the one that cheated with Shania's ex??? So...they just swapped spouses??? I hope that Shania really loves this guy (and vice versa) and this wasn't a 'gotcha' situation. Something just doesn't feel right here. BUT...all the best to you, Shania!!!

I agree with Debbie on most of her points. "after all she's been through" puts me off, though. We don't know nor should we, the details of the marriage. It appears that Mutt acted like one, but to see her jumping into another marriage sure seems like spitework, as well as "love".

Unfortunately like many singers, Shania may have lost her voice. For those who sing for long periods and hit those very high notes (I can them Shania notes) they can get lesions. Over time if they don't disappear they will create scar tissue. Over the vocal cords that is not a good thing.

I heard her 1 yr ago on a CBC 'Current Show' where she went to sing with some kids in one of the local schools as part of her 'Shania Kids Can'. It was early in the morning but you could tell it was not one of her better days, to be nice.

Also if you remember Xmas 2009 (video) where she was playing guitar with her cousin around the fireplace. Means the room is warm and the cords should be 'warmed' as well. Couldn't hit the notes. If you saw her straining (neck arched and her hand trying to smooth the cord area) once again she was a whiff of her former self.

I believe that is why she is going in different directions with her career. Her own show and a book tells me we may find out what inquiring minds always wanted to know. Happy New Year David.
