James Franco is either on a mission to become pop culture's most ubiquitous Renaissance man or he's shoring up his resume to run for president. He's worn lipstick for a magazine cover, written scripts, will host the 83rd Academy Awards, is currently working on his PhD and, of course, we know him best as an actor, but now he's expanding his CV yet again.According to Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411, Franco is slated to write and direct two major adaptive films -- William Faulkner's 'As I Lay Dying' and Cormac McCarthy's 'Blood Meridian.' To top it off, he plans to do all of this while he's still studying at Yale University and Rhode Island School of Design.
Friedman says Franco is hoping to start 'As I Lay Dying' next spring, while work on 'Blood Meridean' would begin sometime in 2012.

James is the new James Dean.
Even more talented.
Under rated. he should be getting the "johnny Depp" roles.
Hollywood gives the good roles to a few.

& he's hotter than those 2.

I like James Franco, but he's getting a little conceited. He has a right to I guess, but I hope his head doesn't swell too much, he'll lose that appeal.

You said it right--
Great, from overrated actor to overrated director. Can't wait...

He should stick with what he did best...the drag thing.
I watched James Franco be interviewed on Inside the Actors Studio, and he is a talented actor, but he is really an oddball. He left me thinking he was strange. I wish him well, but I now have trouble watching him in anything..

yes, I know what you mean; there is something strange about him. Cute but distant, and that makes him unreachable and cold, without empathy. If he wasn't an actor, he'd be a murderer or something without conscience. I don't like him.
And overrated writer too. His book stinks. If it weren't for his so-called star power, he would have never been published. He belongs with Lauren Conrad, Lisa Rinna, Nicole Richie, and all those other great literary no-talents.
