Kirk Cameron to Anderson Cooper on Arkansas Bird Death: 'Call a Veterinarian, Not Me'

Things Kirk Cameron will not be remembered as: a theology scholar, a foreseer of the apocalypse, a man who takes kindly to subtle mockery from Anderson Cooper.

Following the mysterious death of close to 2,000 red-winged blackbirds in Beebe, Ark., earlier this week, Anderson Cooper reached out to the former 'Growing Pains' star in an attempt to have him address reports that the event is a sign of the impending apocalypse.

Cameron, who stars in the popular 'Left Behind' films, which take place following the Rapture, was not amused by Cooper's implication that his religious beliefs were the same as end-of-days zealotry. The actor told the Silver Fox, "You know, I'm not the religious-conspiracy theorist go-to guy, particularly. But I think it's really kind of silly to try to equate birds falling from the sky with some kind of an end-times theory."

Shouldn't this be hailed as one of the more intelligent statements from an actor in recent memory? Basically, it's "Don't blow this out of proportion, and what I have to say isn't particularly interesting or relevant in this case, so why are you getting my opinion in the first place?" Kind of refreshing, if you ask me.

you are so right, teakin! sometimes people think celebrities have more insight than they do. Kirk is supposed to know whats going on w/ the birds? LOL Even the experts arent sure.

Much as I like AC, I'm glad Kirk took him to task.

Yup! Well said Kirk! Sometimes these news guys just don't know how to spin a story. Maybe the reality of the situation is that the environment is poisoning these birds - and yes, we are in that respect poisoning ourselves. But to ask Kirk, an actor who is somewhat of a Born Again Christian, if this is the beginning of the end of times - that's a stretch.

Wow, jesse.....How do you know that? I know Cameron is a self-confessing Christian and shares his faith with others. He's taken a self-effacing, rational approach with Mr. Cooper's question and just not played intro media-frenzy typed hyberbole. Mature and wise of him, and also godly, really. Though concern for our planet as stewards of what's been given to us is certainly a godly thing to do too.

@ John - What does his being famous have to do with how much he knows about Jesus? And really, he's famous for a 25 yr old tv show, and a series of movies most people have heard of but never seen? That hardly makes him a legend.
