After millions spent on the highly anticipated 'The Kennedys,' starring Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy and Greg Kinnear as JFK, A&E Television Networks released surprising news Friday night: The History Channel has suddenly decided not to air its epic Emmy bait."Upon completion of the production of 'The Kennedys,' History has decided not to air the 8-part miniseries," a network rep told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. "After viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded that although the film is produced and acted with the highest quality auspices, the dramatic license the series takes is not suitable for the History brand." The rep added, on behalf of the network, "We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series."
An A&E spokesperson confirmed that the cancellation is not due to advertiser complaints or concerns, as was the case with 'The Reagans,' which CBS dropped in 2003 before Showtime picked it up. The content was simply deemed not accurate enough.
The cable network made headlines by embracing a scripted miniseries for the first time, which was also its most expensive production to date. But A&E is now giving the miniseries the cold shoulder -- nevermind all the tantalizing images of Katie Holmes in costume on set, looking every bit the picture of Camelot-era Jackie. Holmes, 31, recently talked to Elle magazine about researching the role and studying archival footage for hours. Hubby Tom Cruise "watched everything with me. ... He found it fascinating," she said in the Elle story. "I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her. On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special."
So is the entire miniseries history? Not so fast, says PopEater's Naughty but Nice Rob Shuter. Holmes and the cast did not see this bad news coming, but rescue parties are forming. "AMC, Starz and Showtime are all looking to pick it up," a source at a rival network said. "The production values are good, and the acting is great. Showtime had a huge hit with 'The Tudors,' which didn't exactly care about how historically accurate it was. ... If they think 'The Kennedys' will get them viewers ... at the end of the day, that's all that matters."

Oh darn I'm so disappointed! Why would anyone cast Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy...why would you cast her for any role for that matter.

The word is she did a very good job with this role as did the entire cast. The real question is why was it really pulled? The History network had the script the entire time and knew exactly what was in it. Like little children you focused on Katie Holmes instead of the fact you are being played by the network and the powers that be behind it.
No, she just sucks at acting. I'm sure we'll hear all kinds of reasons why they pulled it.
"Although we regret this does not fit into the History Channel's plans, we are confident that television viewers in the United States will join viewers from around the world in having an opportunity to watch this series in the near future."
. . . and we're all pretty sick to death of the Kennedys. Thank God they buried this.
She doesn't look a thing like Jackie Kennedy. Why was she cast at all?

i totally agree, also we have had enough movies on the Kennedy's and frankly i thought they were good so lets stop the maddness.
Actually Katie looked very much like Jackie, and the cast acted superb. I hope another network buys this series so that we can all finally see & hear the truth behind this dark, dysfunctional, troubled family.
hooray for the History Channel and their valiant effort to prevent effing hollywood liberals from rewriting history...

That had nothing to do with it. I think that they realized that Katie was wrong for the part, as she can't act and she looks nothing like Jackie. I think it was wise to cancel.
Why doesn't she go back to the "creek" and jump in. Stick to being Mrs. Cruise....It's about the only part you know how to play and that is marginal.

I don't think they are re-writing history, they are just telling the truth, the truth that the press would not publish in respect for the president. I loved JFK, but he was a horn dog. I would very much like to see the mini-series. It wouldn't be any different then Quinten Terintino's "JFK" really people it's a movie if you don't want to see it don't frickin go.

It was Oliver Stone who did the movie "JFK." NOT Quentin Tarantino.
The reason it was pulled was because the Kennedy's protested. The film was painfully truthful & they couldn't handle it. Do your research on Joseph Kennedy. Nothing to be proud of. How on earth they gained so much power is beyond me. Why we idolize JFK is also beyond me. He was a terrible example of a world leader as were the rest of the brothers. Ted is another example of a low life. What he did was inexcusable & cost him the presidency thank God. Their poor wives & children suffered through all of this. No wonder Jackie kept her children away. When I think of the Kennedy's tragic existence all I can think of is the term " The sins of the father" I hope another TV network is brave enough to show this. We will all be given an education.
I like Katie Holmes & think she looked great for the part & was perfect for it. You people don't like her because she's married to Tom Cruise. Someone else will probably buy this from the History Channel. I bet you at some point it will be shown. Have any of you really watched Katie work. Watch some of her movies & really watch her face. She is really very good at showing emotion & looks like she's really going through whatever the movie role requires. Get off her back. I really don't care about seeing yet another thing about the Kennedy's though. Never thought much of them & still don't but I probably would watch some of this because she's in it. You all just need to grow up or shut up. I really don't care which.

Geez are you her publicist or something? We are allowed to think she's not much of an actress. And would you tell me the role she had where she had that convinving emotion on her face? The only thing I've sen her do lately is shop and carry her daughter around on her hip.
sorry typo-convincing
Ok let me think-Katie or Miss Piggy-hmmmmmm-think I'll pick Miss Piggy-at least she has some personaility. Interesting you used the piggy reference and your name is frog-isn't Kermith the frog Miss Piggy's best friend? Anyway--not jealous of the Mrs Cruise-I bet living with Tom is like dog years-don't envy her THAT.
This was right wingers making things up.It was hardly accurate.

Not only was it accurate, it was painfully accurate. Enough so to make the Kennedy family protest & threaten that it not be shown. The Kennedy years were anything but Camelot. Camelot was the fairy tale lie.
Bet anything Tom Cruise had a part in financing this role for his wife-and bet he was there throughout the shooting too. I've read if she acts in anything he stays on the set to supervise-probably because he cheated on Mimi Rogers with Nicole Kidman and cheated on Nicole with-who was it at the time? Penelope Cruz when they were making that movie Vanilla Sky. Katie is a terrible actress-the best role she has played thus far is trying to act like she's happy being married to Tom.
