John Edwards Not Engaged to Rielle Hunter

Only weeks after his estranged wife's death, rumors flourished that John Edwards was engaged to the woman for which he left her. But according to John's mistress Rielle Hunter's attorney, there's no truth to any tales of a proposal.

Elizabeth Edwards, who was married to John for thirty years, died on December 7th, 2010, after a six-year battle with cancer. John admitted to his extramarital affair with Rielle in 2008, and while John and Elizabeth filed for divorce, the process was never finalized. Many have speculated John's personal indiscretions ultimately cost him his promising political career.

It only worsened his unfavorable public image when reports of John and Rielle planning to marry surfaced so soon after the passing of a woman with whom he had four children. However, ABC News reports that sources close to the Edwards family claim the former Senator is not engaged.

In January of 2010, John admitted to having fathered a child with Rielle. The Enquirer claimed John proposed the idea of them being, "one big, happy family."

As her health declined, Elizabeth was adamant about remaining civil towards John. She understood he would be the one to raise her two youngest children, ages 10 and 12, after her death. According to Daily Mail, John is now instructing his children to call his girlfriend, Rielle, "Mommy."

You have got to be kidding? You are trying to blame Elizabeth for her husband's infidelity? No is responsible for that but him. Even the woman he was involved with isn't responsbile for his actions, just her own. John Edwards made a decision to cheat on his wife. And only he is responsbile for what happened to his political career. And only Elizabeth knows why she decided to have more children later in life and you have no business judging her actions. As every parent knows, you can't replace a child who has died. You can have other children but they can't replace the own who died and no one should put that kind of pressure on them.

There are creeps and bastards all over the world.
Our lives are just too short to lend our attention to the people of worthless. In the end, they'll all get what they deserve, but we should restrain from harsh judgements, for we will never know the truth inside the marriage of John and Eliz's. Regardless, Elizabeth was a respected, courageous woman. Let us not draw more attention to this dark saga that she would just like people to forget and move on.

Her breast cancer was a result of treatments to have another child? From the hormones they are required to take for those treatments? How do you know this.? I never heard it before. If true,then I would have to think the cancer was caused by the hormones....enough to give pause of thought to those synthetic hormones given to women at various stages of her life......

75% chance of later emergence of cancer from various fertility drug treatments taken in late 40's, esp. Clomid. Even greater probability if there is already existing fam. history of CA. This is the dirty little secret about fertility clinics no one wants to talk about. Saddest part- Edwards sense of guilt about Wades death is probably what drove her need(urge) to replace him. Hard to imagine for such an educated woman. And fertility clinics aren't in the business of turning ppl away. Think about it.

I don't care, nor do I feel any rational human being with any sense at all cares whether or not John and Rielle are engaged or not. He is a useless, insensative piece of garbage and deserved just what he is getting, nothing. Elizabeth Edwards should rest in peace and HE SHOULD ROT IN HADES.....

Just because a rag magazine prints something, it doesn't mean its true. When will people just learn to mind there own business and believe what you hear from the "horses" mouth only, not hear say or sources close to..........Edwards lost his political career and his wife, does he need more punishment? Look to your own home before you reach out and punish someone.

Go Tell - Kate & Prince William aren't engaged either. It was probably someone at popeater that created the scandal just to get a rise. Far too many people who post on this site jump to conclusions on stories that have no fact just to rip on someone. It's an inside out job to those who do this - you're ugly individuals on the inside and probably on the outside as well.

Fact Edward's career was over first, the affair happened after that. Affair or no affair Edward's NEVER would have been elected. As far as men being led by there penises goes, that's not exactly true either, it only seems that way because those are the only men women notice.

sorry i feel the whole john edwards story and what he did while knowing his wife of 36 years was that sick makes him a very bad person ok,,, anyone that would do that to a partner after that many years together and with 4 kids 2 very very young certainly has big time issues !!! thank god this guy never got in office and if he is as bad as it says he is only GOD will judge him and also deal with him on his terms !!! karma is hell !!! lord watch over them young kids and god rest her soul for liz edwards !!! im sure she knew all about what her so called husband was up to all along !!! for me i never would have voted for him and im glad the voters did not vote him in office for his political days are all OVER !!!!

John Edwards is like every man I'v ever met in my life.
He really can't be blamed for a natural love urge to make a baby with Rielle.
He was finished with Elizabeth before he fell in love with Rielle.
I'm not in judgement of these lovers.

If it is not true: that article was totally uncalled for by the magazine. UNACCEPTABLE journalism. I dont know the Edwards, but it really saddened me to see such a headline.

If it is true: it would go to show how far John has fallen. It is a life defining moment, when one realized they have destroyed anothers heart with one's own selfish physical desires. ( lust )
I will be very surprised if John and the Mistress ( who was able to keep from having children for 40 years) ever end up together.
Most dont marry their sin and shame.

I guess that I am going to pretend that I am one in a million when I propose that I would do pretty much what John Edwards would do, and pretty much the same way. I believe that when my marriage was over, and we both knew it,.. the fact that it occured many many months before the actual divorce.. it was still unreedeemable. In my case, I did not find a new love affair but I sure wish I had and if I had, I would have begun to act on that and would have begun my thoughts for a new life. Soo just like the marriage, my wife and my relationship were dead to me so the fact that she (or I) would actually die many many months later would not change the fact that she and the relationship were both dead to me and also mine to her. It's only a false sense of decency from a public opinion consensus that seems bothered by the fact that I would make a move such as the one John Edwards is moving in, that society has a need to control human behavior. There is nothing wrong about what JE is doing. There is everything wrong about the judgement that society is wanting to impose on the results. Both the public and John Edwards are going to do what they want.And neither one should give a damn about what the opposing view cares about it. John Edwards gives the imbicilic public fodder to nurse contempt and the imbicilic public gives me cause to excercise writing these notes. = Win Win

I've understood this wasn't true, that Elizabeth never met the child or Rielle. She admitted to tuning in to Rielle's Oprah interview, but that is it.

I believe the author of this piece is embellishing the facts particularly when she claims Edward's is now instructing his two youngest children to call his mistress, 'mommy." I don't buy that for one minute -- seeing is believing...
