Report: 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' Not Renewed for a Second Season

TLC may not renew the hit reality show '
Sarah Palin's Alaska' for a second season despite it being a ratings juggernaut for the channel.
EW reports that Sunday's finale will be the last episode aired of the reality series, which averaged 3.2 million viewers per week. The first episode of the show set a ratings record for TLC, gathering a reported 5 million viewers.
TLC has not yet given a reason as to why it may not air a second season. A source close to the show told
PEOPLE that the show "was always planned as a special event, and beyond that there have been no discussions or decisions."
The
Daily Mail is saying that another reason for the show not coming back is the possibility of
Palin running for president in 2012. If she does decide to campaign for the post, she would need to show her commitment to winning the elections rather than spending her time filming the reality show.
The news comes as a surprise since an insider told
PopEater's own Rob Shuter that Palin had started talking about a
new deal for the reality show.
"Sarah knows to strike when the iron is hot and started talking about season two right after the show debuted to huge numbers. She knows that celebrities get millions of dollar for each episode of their shows and thinks she's worth it, too. Jennifer Aniston took home millions from 'Friends,' and in Sarah's eyes, she's no different."
Palin reportedly made more than $250,000 per episode for the eight-week series.
The highly controversial show had PETA
up in arms in response to an episode where Palin shot and killed a caribou. Palin responded by saying that it was a common way to collect food for the cold months. She said, "Hunting is something most Alaskans do to fill their freezer with meat for the winter."
Palin even
tweeted, "Unless you've never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather chair or eaten meat, save your condemnation of tonight's episode."
Aaron Sorkin, the acclaimed screenwriter of 'The West Wing' and 'The Social Network', wrote in
The Huffington Post, "You weren't killing that animal for food or shelter or even fashion. You were killing it for fun. You enjoy killing animals."
Sorkin went on to criticize the former governor's motivation behind the segment, calling the animal "the first moose ever murdered for political gain."
"You knew there'd be a protest from PETA and you knew that would be an opportunity to hate on some people, you witless bully."

I can't stand Sarah Palin, but even I agree that she's not to blame for the tragedy in AZ.
She is guilty, however, of extreme politics. Her "don't retreat, reload" attitude and the crosshairs over the districts she wants to "target" all imply gun-violence and let's just be honest with ourselves, there are nuts everywhere, to the left as well as the right. So yeah, it's easy to understand controversy and the blame. The fact that she immediately (after the shootings)removed the crosshairs from her page indicates a bit of guilt over that, and maybe even over some of the terminology she spouts at her rallies.
I agree with other posters who say that she killed the caribou for fun...not for sport, not for food, not for anything other than ratings and to piss ppl off.

Karl Rove must be turning cartwheels. Now all he needs to bury Sister Sarah's political ambitions is to lash her to the horrific events of Tuscon and watch as she goes down. By the way, TLC is cancelling her reality show.

Boy it didn't take the anti-Palin boo-birds long to jump on this. First of all, who cares what "acclaimed screenwriter" left-wing loon Aaron Sorkin thinks? Even though I enjoyed the Alaskan reality show I think the network is right in cancelling it since over-exposure will hurt Palin's political future.

The liberal envy of the Palin family makes me chuckle. The Palins are laughing all the way to the bank. You'd think all these "smart" libs would figure out that all their hating shows how much control Palin has over their sad liberal lives.

I agree she is laughing all the way to the bank:
while
A mother looks to bury her 9 year old daughter
Wives look to bury their husbands
Husbands look to bury their wives
An engaged couple will never be married
A woman sits in her hospital bed with a bullet in her head
All at the hands of Sarah Palin. Hope she finds her way to the bank.
Every time a reality show stops filming an angel gets it's wings

How about no renewal on loggers, truckers, junkyard shows, pawn stars, midget shows, cake boss, police women......

I greatly enjoyed the show!. I visited Alaska in 2009 and learned alot about the state and it's people then. This program taught me even more like the sheer beauty of the state. I learned even more about its fishing and seafood industry, timber industry, gold industry and life in general for it's people. I am glad the family did the show. If Sara doesn't run for president, I hope they can do another show. It was awesome and well worth my time to watch!

Sarah Palin is a dangerous idiot who spreads hate across America. Her violent language has caused the tragedy in Tucson. She may have the blood of more than that caribou on her hands.

Please explain to us then, why this nutcase has been following Mrs. Giffords since 2007. Long before any of us heard of Sarah Palin.
It is disgusting and pathetic how people like you are using this tragedy to further the animosity between political parties. Sad bunch of human beings you are.
"Jennifer Aniston took home millions from 'Friends,' and in Sarah's eyes, she's no different."
There you have it ladies and gents, the truth behind Caribou Barbie. She's no Great Savior, she's no Last Best Hope For America, she's just another spoiled celebutante out for another 15 minutes and a quick buck. She already abdicated one elected position for money and fame, expect that she'll do it again if given the opportunity.

I'll bet it was those damn liberals who caused this poor woman to lose her show. Just like it was those damn liberals who caused Sarah's fat-thighed daughter to not win Dancing With The Stars. As all you rightwingers know, it's always the liberals.

Sarah,
Makes sense to those of us in the real world. You critics are so out of touch with reality. Unfortunately the Hippie generation is in control God help the republic.

I am a republican and it would have been unlikely I'd of voted for Palin but after seeing 3 minutes of one of her reality shows (as I was turning channels)I can confirm I'd vote for Mickey Mouse before voting for her!!! She has got to be the dumbest person on earth. She sells herself out and it's clear she does enjoy killing, no empathy at all. She would do ANYTHING to make a buck (or kill one for that matter!!),I wish she would just disapear out of the public eye!!!She's bad for the republican party!

I love how sarah gets under the far left loons skin...sarah makes them implode its funny lol

Yeah much like an itchy skin rash she does get "under ones skin". And you missused the word "implode", you should have said nauseous.
After what happened in Arizona, and people demanding her head for her immature, unintelligent superficial rants about Ms. Gifford, she should not be talking about renewal. Instead she should be talking to a lawyer. No matter how much she denies it or her people, the blood of a fedral judge , a govt. aide and a 9 year old girl are in her hands. She can forghet about running for president. Criminals are not allowed. She a glorified whack job

what about the Bush crime family [Bush,Cheny,Rumsfield...] responsible for 60,000 civilian deaths in Iraq. People just as inocent as those killed in the tradigy in Az.
So, now Sara has shot a moose. Guess THAT qualifies her to run for President. What is the difference between her erratic behavior and that of the AZ gunman? Surely the Republican Party can find someone else with some real brains and substance, someone who isn't always out to attract attention.
