Oscar Boycott Story 'Not True,' Says Tom Cruise's Spokesperson

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: Tom Cruise's people are slapping down a Daily Mail report alleging the 'War of the Worlds' actor and wife Katie Holmes are skipping the Oscars because the event is being co-hosted by Anne Hathaway. Why would someone boycott an event because of Anne Hathaway? A source told the Mail that Holmes was not amused by her peer's recent impression of her on 'Saturday Night Live.'

But as quickly as the story has spread, a spokesperson for Cruise tells PopEater that it is "not true and made up" and that the famous pair had no plans of attending the Oscars before Hathaway's somewhat unflattering skit.

The Daily Mail quoted a now-debunked source saying, "Tom and Katie don't want to have to cross paths with Anne" after the skit. The source said that the couple used to be friends with Hathaway and supported her when she split from her then-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, in 2008.

Hathaway, 28, along with James Franco, 32, will host the 83rd Academy Awards show Feb. 27. They will be the youngest tandem of Academy Award hosts ever.

Oh grow up Tom & Katie, Imitation Is the sincerest form of flattery. Take it with a grain of salt. If anything we should all boycott watching the awards because of all of Tom’s crappy movies.

Fine with me. If this is true, please have Anne host the Oscars every year! Her impression of Katie was sooooo good on SNL - she probably does Katie better than Katie! She can sure act better than Katie and gets better roles too!

Putting the oscars and all that crap to the side, I would be furious if a "friend" of mine mocked me like that on Saturday night live on national TV. I have to say, I can't blame them for being angry with her. I have always liked Anne Hathaway so it has nothing to do with that. I think she probably used poor judgment to do it without checking with her friend first.

I agree with you that Katie Holmes has a reason to be hurt. Anne Doesn't seem to be that much of a friend to mock Katie on national television. Anne made her look like an idiot. Could be that they should expect this kind of thing being in show business, but I think you'd have to be very tough skinned not to have this hurt. Surprising that if they are friends, Anne didn't bother to apologize privately to Katie.
